It could simply be something in the bodywork resonating at that particular frequency. If it goes away as the engine warms up I wouldn't worry about it.

If you use the throttle after warm up and hold it at 1500 revs, is the rattle back?

If I recall, its some time since I had an 'early' model Jazz but I remember having similar noise somewhere deep in the dash area (from the engine). Sounded like a vibrating metal bracket, I didn't find it and only mentioned it once to dealer but it never presented a problem before I got rid of the car. Sorry can't be more help.

I have the same problem with Dave456.  At first I thought it is engine mounting but problem persist after i replaced the mounting. What could be the cause?

I would check the exhaust as they can rattle when cold and then not once warm?
Isn't this topic in the wrong section, a '54' plate car would be regestered in 2004/2005, unless it's a personal/private plate?

My old 2005 had a retaining nut shear on the cat heat shield, that used to rattle on and off until changed.
