Replacement Headunit for my Honda Jazz?
« on: May 12, 2012, 05:20:59 PM »
Hi,

I have the Honda Jazz and I would like to replace the Head Unit. I don't need Navigation or Video and am only looking for better ipod integration and USB input and perhaps a dvd player. I am currently using the aux-in which doesn't integrate with the steering mounted controls.

Can i replace this with something better?

Thanks!

You could  just install USB adapter  (I have) and Ipod cord.

And may I ask why would you need a dvd player for?

Thank you eljeuro.

I was hoping to get a better head-unit than the stock one as the scrolling display is very small and has very little information. Isn't 160 quid a bit high for just an adapter with the Ipod cord it's almost 210.

The DVD player was just in case I wanted to use an Mp3 DVD not essential.

Yes it is, way too much!
Perhaps there is available a cheaper option but not as good and simpl as this for sure.
And it works perfectly of course. I'm happy with this upgrade cos I don't have to burn music everytime and I can have all my music on computers hard drive. But the radio unit has its limitation - number of folders, songs...it is in the manuel. 4Gb usb key is more than enough for me for some time though.

Regarding a dvd player ... I thought so :)

Thank you eljuero. Is there any reason why you removed your earlier link to partscheap?

You are welcome.
Not really, I bought it there :)  I just thought later its not necessary but then again it would be cheaper despite import.

Yes Partscheap is definitely a lot cheaper. Is the adapter all I need or do I need to get that ipod connector as well?

Good question, I'm not sure. Don't have an Ipod. Firstly I thought you would need but according to the Glyn Hopkin you wouldn't (INCLUDES USB ADAPTER BOX 08A28-0K6-100 + USB ADAPTER BOX ATTACHMENT 08B28-TF0-610 - USING A USB CABLE ADAPTOR, SIMPLY PLUG A USB COMPATIBLE IPOD®, MP3 PLAYER OR SIMILAR INTO THE SOCKET LOCATED IN THE CENTRAL CONSOLE BOX - CONTROLLED THROUGH CAR STEREO AND/OR STEERING WHEEL - INCLUDING CHARGING FUNCTION) but its better to be 100% sure.

Perhaps you can get some help from these treads if you didn't see them already

Edit:
I found this :) http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-HONDA-APPLE-IPOD-POD-MUSIC-LINK-2-0-AUDIO-/110660029436?fits=Make:Honda|Model:Fit&hash=item19c3da0bfc&item=110660029436&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr

and if I understand correctly you can plug your ipod to the usb socket but in this case you can't controll it through car stereo or steering wheel.

Wow thanks for all the research! :) I found this on the ebay link you posted. Ipod Music Link 2.0 http://estore.honda.com/marketing/honda/pdf/HondaMusicLink20QRG.pdf

Looks like it's only for connecting Ipods so you can't connect a USB Flash Drive or something like that which makes it pretty limited if you ask me?

First of all, a couple of questions.

Do you have, low down on the centre console, a socket with a flap over it marked "USB"? It's probably just to the right of the cigar lighter.

And do you have, possibly hiding in the glove box, a short cable with a square plug on one end that fits into the above socket, and a standard USB socket on the other end? It should look something like this.....

If you have the above-mentioned USB socket with the flap over it then you should also have the short length of cable. It's a sort of adaptor cable to convert the proprietary Honda USB socket to a standard USB one. If you bought the car second hand it's possible that this short adaptor cable has got lost or nicked; that happened to me. If so, you'll have to get another one. I don't know the Honda part number, but I do know it's ludicrously expensive for what it is - about £65. I was lucky and found one on eBay. Once you've found this adaptor cable and plugged it into your car's USB port, you can then plug the iPod's USB cable into the adaptor's USB socket. Press "AUX" on the car radio a couple of times if necessary. The car radio will then control the iPod (including the steering wheel controls). It will also charge the iPod.

Incidentally, you can also plug a USB memory stick into the adaptor's USB socket and the car radio will play any audio files it finds.

All of this should be in your User Manual.
