Emitting just 120 g/km of CO2 with a combined fuel consumption of over 55mpg, the 1.2-litre version of the new Honda Jazz is one of the greenest cars around, compensating for the unlikely introduction of a diesel-powered Jazz. Other cars produce less CO2 but most are diesels which produce harmful nitrous oxide emissions. And with diesel costing on average £1.29 per litre* across the UK, (compared with £1.16 per litre* for regular unleaded), it can take many miles to offset the higher purchase price of diesel cars.
Thanks to the low CO2 figures, the 1.2-litre only costs £35 for one year's road tax. The 1.2-litre Jazz would also qualify for exemption from the London Congestion Charge - had the CO2-based charging scheme, due to commence this autumn, not been shelved.
Although the petrol Fiat 500 1.2 matches the Jazz 1.2 for CO2 emissions and fuel consumption, the Jazz offers more power (88bhp vs 69bhp) in what is a bigger car.
