Low Emissions and £35 Road Tax for Petrol Jazz
« on: August 03, 2008, 08:08:56 PM »
Emitting just 120 g/km of CO2 with a combined fuel consumption of over 55mpg, the 1.2-litre version of the new Honda Jazz is one of the greenest cars around, compensating for the unlikely introduction of a diesel-powered Jazz. Other cars produce less CO2 but most are diesels which produce harmful nitrous oxide emissions. And with diesel costing on average £1.29 per litre* across the UK, (compared with £1.16 per litre* for regular unleaded), it can take many miles to offset the higher purchase price of diesel cars.

Thanks to the low CO2 figures, the 1.2-litre only costs £35 for one year's road tax. The 1.2-litre Jazz would also qualify for exemption from the London Congestion Charge - had the CO2-based charging scheme, due to commence this autumn, not been shelved.

Although the petrol Fiat 500 1.2 matches the Jazz 1.2 for CO2 emissions and fuel consumption, the Jazz offers more power (88bhp vs 69bhp) in what is a bigger car.

According to Honest John's website, no Jazz will actually qualify for the £35 road tax!  :o

The statement from Honda on HJ's website...

"Emissions and fuel economy figures have also been confirmed, with significant improvements on the outgoing model. The 1.2-litre S and SE models will achieve a super frugal 53.3mpg (combined) with 125g/km CO2 emissions. The 1.4-litre ES model, with increased power of 100PS, achieves 52.3mpg and 128g/km CO2 emissions while the top EX grade manages a thrifty 51.4mpg with emissions of 130g/km. Fitted with the i-SHIFT automated manual transmission, emissions of the 1.4-litre models are reduced to 125g/km and 128g/km respectively, while improved fuel economy is comparable with the 1.2-litre model."

Needless to say the local H Agents knew nothing about this PR disaster, I had to direct then to the HJ website.
When I asked about tuning the new VTEC engine they were equally unhelpful
