Exhaust popping/sounds like it's blowing
« on: June 07, 2011, 05:47:39 PM »
Hi there, hope someone can help me.

I've got a 4 month old Jazz 1.4 ES, 4000 miles on the clock and have noticed, for quite a while, that my exhaust sounds like it is blowing very slightly! I obviously don't think this is the case on a 4mth old car but i'm wondering if i should take it to the dealer to have it checked or if its just a characteristic?

Basically, when parking up (so engine WARM) i can hear my exhaust going put put put put as the revs fall and then it sounds fairly quiet when idling. If you rev it quite hard it will actually slightly POP also.

When i first heard this i changed from normal unleaded to BP Ultimate but no change - i've just got through my first tank and have just refuelled (does it take longer to see any benefit?).

Any thoughts would be appreciated :-)

Thanks

Doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard on mine!
I've had mine from new, it's got 20k on the clock now and the exhaust has always been silent!
A trip to the dealer will help!

PS: I run mine on BP 95 and currently get 51 mpg. Tried the Ultimate a while back but it wasn't worth the extra!

As advised above - see the dealer.

Old school mechanics diagnosis is an air leak in the exhaust manifold. Not unknown for race cars in good order to do this due to a large bore short exhaust, but standard road cars never.
