variable services to 12500/12 months
« on: April 17, 2011, 01:25:36 AM »
who here has had this switched off/not switched on when purchased and gone on the 12500/12months service schedule?

my new jazz has not had the service indicator switched on and i want to go in every 12 months for a service.

i have heared the dealer puts a sticker on your service book to say 12500/12months.

thanks

My first EX had variable switched off...when I questioned the dealer (2 years ago) he had no knowledge of variable on Jazz and said go with the book 12.5K/12mths.

My new EX (bought as dealer demonstrator) has variable switched on. Its been counting down to a 'B' service in days, now its switched to miles and it's counting down to an 'A' service. If I get that done when suggested it will be about 10.5K.

I'm going to stick to the 12.5K and ask the dealer to switch variable off at its first service.

Variable users in this forum feedback that variable suggests servicing early which is ok if you are on some sort of service plan.

so you should be able to see the service even if the car is brand new with low miles if it switched on?

i will wait for the 12 months to be up and then go in, i hope it doesnt effect the warranty if you do 12months/12500 miles

after all it is the dealers fault it wasnt switched on

Yes, my car only had 300 miles on when bought...5 months old...but the cariable display was already on and counting down.

Can't see that anything will be your fault if the indicator is switched off, your only guide is the book at 12.5k/12mths.

I thought it may be like VW...either variable or fixed servicing, one or the other for the life of the vehicle. Its not due service for few months yet so I don't know all the 'rules' unless someone else does?

all i know is that you can buy a 5 year/12,500 per year plan and that the 09 on jazz is able to be on that plan, so you should be able to service it annually and pay every year if your not signed up for the 5 year deal?

Just an update, the car has now done just over 8,300 miles and the variable indicator service warning comes on whenever I start the car, cancel it by pressing multi-function on wheel. Variable indicates service will be due at 9,000 miles!!

I'll be keeping the car for 50,000 miles hence the reason for having 12.5k services and will be asking the dealer to switch variable (or how to shortchange the owner) off.

Yes a sticker will be put in your service book and you will be asked to sign a declaration stating that is what you want. If it is turned off then the system can never be turned back on.

Just for the record, I had my 2008 I-Shift serviced twice in two years from new.  I only do 5000 miles a year max, on each occasion the variable service indicator required a service after 12 months on the date it was registered.

No warranty will be fine but if car is asking for a service do not ignore it. get the service done or turn it off. If car goes in well over the stated service then yes could affect it.

With response to Tenrab...when I bought the car (with 300miles) at 5 months old it counted days to approximately 12 months old. It was only when the mileage started increasing thousands (can't remember how many) that it switched to miles. It also changed from an 'A' to a 'B' service.

As I do about 25K per year I only ever keep the car 2 years, this is my 5th Jazz so although it may sound selfish once I get rid I'm not bothered about whether variable is turned off and if I can get a good enough deal it goes back to a dealer.

By the time I get to 50K I would normally have had 3 services...with variable it'll cost me 5 and the first service will be a 'B'.

I should be about the right mileage for the first year service July so I'll keep you posted.
----- Double Post Prevention - new post below: 1304977442 -----
8,700 miles and indicator shows 'service required now' warns 120 miles to service and it's changed its mind again and now wants 'A' and 'B'.

Got another meeting down south on wednesday so I assume it will go negative (overdue) after that.

I noticed in the handbook that the owner can reset the variable indicator from the steering wheel, has anyone ever done this? has anyone ever done this without doing the service and how does that affect its ability to predict?

I think I'll ring the dealer I'm going to use for servicing (Bolton) tomorrow for advice.
