larger diameter wheels
« on: April 29, 2018, 03:09:43 PM »
Alway thought the Jazz would look better and go better (especially in 1st) with say 17" wheels, 1st gear on my 1.4 2010 always seems a bit high. Anyone tried 17" ??

If the circumference is larger with the 17" wheels, it would effectively make the gearing even higher.

It may look better the ride will suffer and the cost of replacement tyres increase & of course when you tell none standard wheels & tyres to your insurance company they will rub their hands...£££'s

Gearing should be the same as tyres get thinner.

Gearing should be the same as tyres get thinner.

You say you are changing because bottom gear seems too high, then you later  say gearing should remain the same as tyres get thinner. I have just taken 16" wheels off my wife's si because of harsh ride and fitted 15" and guess what,  the gearing is the same and speedo is reading exactly same as with 16" on. Ride is much better and tyres are a very reasonable price now with loads of choice.

17" wheels are not homologated size for the mk2, the sizes that are legal on your jazz are on the sticker on drivers B pillar.

Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot
