Have read recently that all new UK cars sold after Feb 2011 must be fitted with Daytime Running Lights.
My new EX CVT registered end of April 2011 does not have them.
What's going on? Is it the date of manufacture, or the date of registration that is applicable?

I believe its date of manufacturer but dont quote me on it

How long until all cars have daytime running lights?
Because the European Commission only states that cars being put forward for type approval must have daytime running lights, not production models, don’t expect every single new production car to come equipped with daytime running lights.
Type approval only occurs when a manufacturer releases a new model, or makes significant changes when updating a current car. But the Society of Motoring Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) says it won’t be long until we see a rapid growth in daytime running lights on UK roads.
‘Already, many new cars on sale today feature daytime running lights as standard. As new models are launched and upgrades are made to existing models, we will see the total number of new cars with daytime running lights increase rapidly
So now you know ?? 8)
Enjoy motoring in your Jazz - I do ;D

The UK Department of Transport info sheet states that all new cars after Feb 2011 'MUST' be fitted with DRL lights.
I understand that the revised EX with CVT came out in March, so surely this comes within the new regulation.
Don't get me wrong, I love the car, just want to be sure that I'm not breaking UK law.

Hi
Could be in how you interpret 'new' cars :P

I think this (http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roads/vehicles/vssafety/info-runninglights.pdf) will explain it!

I raised the very same matter in March - hereis Honda UK reply>
Thank you for contacting Honda UK.
The information you have read regarding new vehicles after February 2011 requiring to be fitted with daytime running lights is not entirely accurate.
Models required to be fitted with daytime running lights is not based on date of manufacture or purchase date. This is based on when new models are homologated for use on European roads.
Before a new car goes on sale, the vehicle needs to be homologated (which is a declaration of standard equipment and specifications etc). Vehicles that are homologated from February 2011 need to be equipped with daytime running lights.
As the recently face-lifted Jazz was homologated prior to February 2011, it is not required to be fitted with daytime running lights.
We hope this clarifies your query.

Interesting that the CR-Z launched a year ago has DRL.

Probably has more to do with style, than regulations... :-\ 8)

Probably yes, and they are Audi-style LED ones too!
