10 years old 1.4 Auto
« on: March 05, 2014, 07:43:18 AM »
Hi all, I am about to make two long distance trips in my up-coming 10 years old automatic 1.4.
Original Battery & exhaust, is that unusual length of use, current mileage is under 49,000. regularly dealer serviced and overnight garaged.

Grateful for your views, Jay Jay.

10 yrs old and only done 49 k miles?

Mine is 5yrs old and done 42k lol so its barely ran in.

If its had full service history i dont think it will be a problem but maybe for piece of mind, take it to your dealer or local garage and ask them for a once over saying your doing this long journey and see if they see any problems.

Out of interest, how long is this long journey?

M<any thanks for your views.  1st journey = 1200 m return, 2nd around 1,000 - equal to 1/4 of a year of our normal motoring!

Make sure the gearbox fluid is changed  withthe correct fluid... Stops future expensive failures...

I would think with that age and such low mileage the exhaust back box and battery are due for replacement. Also check the rear brake pipes where they go into rear brakes these are prone to corrosion. Dealer service actually means nothing as they don't do half the stuff they should and don't use best oils etc.   Has the Brake fluid been replaced in the 10 years ??

Also unless garage is really kept dry cars can 'sweat' and corrode worse than if they are outside in fresh air.

Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot
