Honda Jazz 2022 reg getting to know u 101
« on: August 31, 2024, 04:16:32 PM »
Hello everyone.
Have spent a long while scouring the manual and the wisdom of posters here.

Today we brought home our first Honda Jazz Hybrid - a used 2022 plate- automatic.
A replacement for our much loved 2009 Honda Jazz petrol/ manual which was written off in an hit and run.

It's going to take some time getting acquainted as it's like driving a big computer.

My first terror is that whilst sitting parked in the cab clutching the manual and working out which button does what and altering any presets and setting up clock ,phone etc we are going to drain the 12 volt battery rapidly.

If we power up whilst parked to investigate all the options ,what should we do and in what sequence, to ensure that if the draw on the 12 bolt battery ,whilst stationary is too much, we can get the engine to kick in and top up the 12 volt battery ?

Also ,much like a computer, should we go into the infotainment presets for the radio etc and turn off any presets for auto ' sleep' :functions so that when we completely power down and lock the car ,the 22 volt battery isn't being drained whilst the car is locked ?

Many thanks for any tips for first time hybrid/ automatic driver.

When working out and adjusting settings, just put the car into normal EV mode

Obviously in P and parking brake on

What will then happen is the engine will cut in and out as required to keep the batteries charged
Let's be careful out there !

Thankyou so much so..

Unlock car
Foot on brake pedal keep depressed
Press power button on
If already enough power avail to drive it will say EVO on dashboard ?
Choose P to park and press on brake hold ?
Then investigate settings on console and if too tardy   we should hear the engine kick in to send some juice to the 12 volt ?
If we don't hear engine go on and off does that mean we've not switched on the ' ignition ' properly or does it just mean there is enough juice there already, which will top up again when we go out for a first drive ?
I realise it's a balance between keeping not ,'too topped up' and ' just  right '.
Thanks again

Unlock car
Foot on brake pedal keep depressed
Press power button on

After this the car is fully powered on. If the ICE doesn't immediately kick in it means that the high voltage battery has enough charge (usually 4 or more bars) and the ambient temperature is high enough that no additional heating is required.

I'm not certain if it will actually show EV while still in park (as far as I remember I've seen EV only when mobile.

No, don't use brake hold - lift the parking brake lever instead to apply the parking brake (red light in the switch coming on).
The difference between brake hold and the parking brake is that brake hold (as the name implies) holds the normal brakes including brake lights; it's kind of a "virtual foot" on the braking pedal (after about 10 minutes of brake hold the car will automatically apply the parking brake).

Well, the duration of silence depends largely on the charge level of the high voltage battery. Usually the ICE kicks in if the charge falls to or below 3 bars.
And the 12V battery will get charged from the high voltage battery regardless of the ICE running or not, however not continually but depending on its charge level.

Enjoy your new car!

Thank you both.!
Will probably back with more questions as we explore.
Hope this is ok.
Have to set up  car with Android phone and  then Bluetooth to a pair of digital hearing aids for someone - amongst other things.
Maps and sat nav updated.

I have a work light/ safety light that incorporates a power bank.
How would you connect this if you had to ' jump  the battery
It has a usb out port on it..
Thanks

What I did was to read the manual in the comfort of the armchair

When I got to a section with user changeable settings that looked useful I post-it noted the page so when out in the car I just went through the manual post-it by post-it

There are a lot of settings but most are a one off
Let's be careful out there !

Unsure about the hearing aids: The car's bluetooth connectivity seems to be limited to active (emitting) devices like a smartphone. AFAIK you cannot pair passive (receiving) devices like headphones.
Give it a try though but don't hold your breath.

On the upside:
The 12V battery is only used to power-up the high voltage system of the car (plus some of regular 12V stuff like radio, lights etc) but it's not used to crank the ICE.

On the downside:
A normal power bank might not be able to help you buffer the 12V battery unless it is specifically designed to do this!
(Power banks designed to jump start usually come with a special cable with battery clamps)

You will have to look into something like https://no.co/gb20 or any other make with similar capabilities.

My Oticon hearing aids will work via the phone app for calls but not through the car’s Bluetooth, I have no problem with hearing when using the infotainment system ie maps and audio, if you don’t have the hard copy manual just download it from the web, it’s so much easier in the comfort of your armchair plus clever as the Jazz is it can’t make tea  ;D ;D

Just checked: The Jazz shows "EV" even in P!
(what a wondrous piece of equipment! - hardly a day without learning something new about it!)

Thankyou for all your generous feedback so far.
Had our first payout on the car when on returning from a drive we drove up a small incline towards the Freeman hospital and the passenger side front tyre wall blew out and that cabin juddered towards the oncoming traffic lane.
Luckily not far from home so we called Honda Assist.
Technician lad came within 20 mins but his spare tyre that they carry as standard did not fit with locking nuts so he kindly drove behind us to the nearest ATS just round the corner ,retrieved his tyre and we left it with ATS
overnight.
New tyre fitted and pressures checked and collected car next day.90 quids.ATS think it was down to a pothole.

Now want to go through symbols on drivers dial as I  understand you can call up a preset icon which when displayed lets you check that your break lights and beam lights and sensors are switched on properly without you having to step outside the cabin before setting off.
The nights are drawing in....Fenwick's have just announced it's time to book if you want to see Rooftop Santa beginning 4th November till Christmas eve !!!
Whaaat  .We've not had Halloween yet !
Speaking of which how do folks here look after their Honda in the Autumn and beyond
?
I think on the approach to Halloween and bonfire night our Jazzy will be going onto the small drive with a tarp over and a sign to trick or treaters to stay on the pavement whilst the careful owner observes from the porch !  ☠️

Bad luck. If you can find the spot see if you can photo the pothole and go through the council compensation scheme (receipts from ATS and Honda assist). It is a hassle but worth it if you win, and if we don't do anything there is no incentive to improve the roads, and we will continue to pay higher and higher taxes with less and less to be seen for the money.
