My thoughts on lowering springs
« on: August 29, 2024, 06:11:25 PM »
Since swapping to the GK5 from the GD, I have been toying with the idea of fitting rear wheel spacers and lowering springs mainly to remove the slightly 'gawky' look the car has particularly from the rear. I fitted the wheel spacers some months back and also started deliberating which springs to go for.

I ruled out anything more than a 25mm drop as this would compromise the ride too much and risk damaging the car on speed bumps. The choices for the GK are extremely limited and one of the most common sports spring manufacturers Eibach don't list springs for the GK.

After a lot of research online and particularly on the US Fitfreak forum I decided to order Swift Springs from the US, they have a drop of 1 inch at the front and 0.9 inches at the rear. The Swifts are sadly not available in the UK and by anyones standard not cheap and neither was the carriage,  VAT and import handling, they took a couple of weeks to arrive.

They have been on the car for 2 weeks now and I have had the alignment done and covered about 400 miles. The ride is only slightly firmer but less choppy and bouncy, the car feels much more 'planted' on the road and turn in is much sharper, overall I'm very pleased.

Best of all the stance of the car looks great, it doesn't look obviously modified and unless you knew the Jazz model well, you really wouldn't notice anything different until you compare it with the standard car.

I've never been into modified cars to be honest. Factory is best is my usual comment, however I have to say that on this occasion, I think modified is best. Your car looks fantastic!  8) The mods are not obvious and really enhance the look of the car. Honda should have done that as standard IMHO.

That’s very kind of you to say so.

:D It looks factory, and that's very good.

Out of interest, and apologies if you've mentioned this in other threads, but what sort of MPG do you get? Is it happy with E10 fuel or is E5 required?

I get around 42 mpg on mixed running usually on Shell E10 although have used Tesco Momentum E5 a couple of times and in all honesty I don’t think it makes any difference. When using E10 I usually add a dose of Redex to the tank.

Cheers

25mm spacers on the rear only, the make is Direnza, sold on eBay.
With 25mm you do not need to modify the factory studs and the length of the studs on the Direnzas is the right length so you can use your existing wheel nuts.

My latest addition is a 19mm rear ARB that has made a further improvement in handling and better stability in crosswinds.
