Title: 1.5 i-VTEC Sport Navi CVT.......
Post by: Dayjo on February 14, 2018, 10:55:32 PM
I made my mind up, yesterday.
Soon. I would like a new 1.5 Navi Sport. In the only colour my Navigator will accept. Red.

I've not actually seen one. Don't even have a brochure, yet. But, I have made a couple of enquiries.

Our last two cars, were supplied by BUYACAR. But decided to try CarWow, this time.

Not been on sale, a month, as yet. Almost, £19,000. Can't hold out much hope, for a decent discount........  :(

The five offers, from CarWow. Gave discounts of £1,288 .... £1,468 .... £1,647 .... £1,827 .... £2,187.
Which left me a little gobsmacked! :o

Then, I stumbled across, New-Car-Discount.Com. They got back to me almost immediately..... £3,559.20!! :o :o

An 18 plate. 1.5 Sport Navi CVT. Built to my spec. With free delivery. For £15,396!! Whatever is happening?  ???

Good deals , bear in mind the £15396 is for a used car ie pre reg.
I'd be driving something costing a year & half wages before opening your cheque book....

Did you try Drivethedeal.com ?

They have quoted a saving of £2231.

But... The price of £16,223 needs an extra payment of £500, as I'm paying cash. (Not using Honda's finance)....

Sorry.... I don't understand.  ???

Thank you for requesting a quotation from New-Car-Discount.Com for new 18 model / 18 plate HONDA JAZZ HATCHBACK 1.5 i-VTEC Sport 5dr Navi CVT.

As they have only been available for a few days. And, 18 reg, starts, in 13 days time.
How used can it be. As it is being built for me?

I've heard the term, used very derogatorily, by my local dealer. About my car.
My present Jazz, is a pre-reg.... Signed off, Jan 18th. Registered March 31. Bought by me May 28. With 41, delivery miles, on the clock.....

And, a lovely car, it is too! Despite my saving of £2,700........

Nothing wrong with pre-reg, better than ex-demo as the sales guy hasn't used it as his daily and nobody has given it a 'test' while a courtesy car. Resale value of pre-reg will be no different to 1 owner.

16k for a top spec Jazz sounds like a very good deal although I'm not convinced about that orange stitching.

For all practical purposes they are new but options might be limited.

No! Honda, "give", £750 towards the deposit,  for Honda finance. Obviously, clawing it back, through the interest charged.....

Don't be too disappointed Dayjo, there are other options regarding reversing cameras. Although not quite as slick as the integrated unit of the EX, stand-alone systems with a monitor built into a replacement interior mirror are available. These appear to work well and look far better than an additional screen on the dash. Probably worth getting a specialist to supply and fit a quality system to avoid damage to your new car.

One disadvantage of the built-in system in the EX is the fish-eye lens which gives  a wide field of view but makes objects look much further away than they really are. Most after-market units have a lens which gives a truer perspective albeit with a narrower field of view.

I saw this red one at Listers this week, just off the transporter. Looks great and I think that you and your Navigator would be very happy. I think that by Monday afternoon my branch of Listers had sold three Sports since the launch on Saturday

The EX camera has three settings with the fish-eye being just one of them.  The other two are a normal view and a downward view.  I am very impressed with it.

If the EX doesn't get a 1.5 engine by next year, I will either be looking elsewhere or going with the more expensive HR-V

And it gets dirty in wet weather. I've had to wipe mine twice this week.

And yes, they need to make the 1.5l engine available on the higher spec models. I don't want a Navi model (overpriced for sat nav and I don't trust it to be kept up to date) but I do want all the other toys.

Probably me being lazy then as I tend to use the default wide view or the downward view and have not really looked at the middle option

That looks a good solution. Although the Honda version is to be preferred, given its non availability with the sport at present, would you do the same thing again?

Agree about the paddles - they do come in handy from time to time!

The Navigator, loves the picture of your new car.......

You guessed then! Yes I was the second of the three Sport sales I mentioned. The first was a pre-order and arrived on the Friday and went out to the customer on the Saturday. The third was a customer with a Nissan Note who went on a 30min test drive in a SE CVT. He liked the car but felt that something was not quite right but he could not put his finger on it. The salesperson, bearing in mind the feedback I gave from my test drive, suggested that this customer also drive the sport CVT. Less than  5 minutes into this second test drive he had decided to order one!

As for mine I got a good deal including an additional discount for February delivery (which suited me very well), nothing like that offered by New Car Discount, but  I am happy to support my local dealer.  I felt that overall the benefits of the Sport Navi outweighed the features I would loose compared to the EX.  Anyway I confirmed the order Monday am, car arrived at Listers Wednesday and I will collect on Thursday 22nd. It could have been earlier but this was the first available day when both myself and OH could be there.

Dayjo - I have sent you a PM

I had the same issue when I swopped my first Civic which was blue for a brand new Jazz, unfortunately Honda had stopped doing a blue one at that time and we had to settle for Urban Titanium someone was not very delighted, but success was achieved when we went back to a Civic and she is now a happy bunny again.  ;D

Collected the Jazz Sport Navi CVT yesterday. First impressions are very good. It drives very well and the LED headlamps look very nice but I have yet to try them in the dark. However the foglights are halogen!  The gloss black wheels not only look good but I shall worry far less about them than the diamond cut ones on my previous EX. Still getting used to not having keyless entry and climate control and I may investigate aftermarket reverse cameras if in a week or two I consider one a necessity.

On the road all worries about lack of initial acceleration when pulling out etc have gone and in contrast you sometimes have to be careful not to trigger the traction control if it is damp. Overall I am delighted with the car and the sales experience with Listers Honda Solihull

John, Jocko. Thank you for your kind comments.

The Milano Red does significantly change its apparent shade according to the ambient lighting conditions. The attached rear view was taken outside the dealers in the sunshine and it looks almost orange, whilst in the shade it looks even darker than the picture taken outside my house.

Hi any thoughts on the pearl white jazz sport as im not sure in choosing the red or white.Im also thinking of adding rear tints as i know a good mobile fitter who has done 3 past cars.
Like said its a shame there is no reversing camara or even park assist but i remember when we used to have no air con and had to wind windows up so not too bothered.

My wife has Peral white GE Si and it is a great colour,  get the DiamondBrite coating on it and it will stay looking perfect for many years...

Red and white are the two colours which I think suit the Sport trim best. I went for red again as my partner has a red Jazz S but I am very likely to go for white next time. My only concern with white (I have never had a white car before) would be keeping it clean, as the Milano Red does not seem to show the dirt so much. Might be best to go with Culzean's suggestion if you decide on white.

I will be looking at aftermarket reversing cameras when the weather warms up a bit (or a lot!) but the Sport does have parking sensors front and rear as standard. I probably wouldn't be bothered about the camera had I not got used to having one on my previous EX.

There's a Skyride Blue version on show in our local shopping precinct (covered in snow!) which looks very smart with the red sport trim.  I would have chosen it rather than Brilliant Sporty Blue had it been available at the time.  I think lighter colours are somewhat safer, particularly yellow, but I've never fancied that.

I had a banana yellow (not my choice) Datsun 160B when my daughters were teenagers, requests for transport always included the phrase "In mums car". I once owned a white car, never again, black is almost as bad to keep clean. My 1.5 Jazz will be Milano red, hopefully the 1.5 engine will have filtered down to the SE by next year when I will replace my car. If not it will have to be a Sport model.

I did worry about keeping my wife's orchid pearl white Si clean,  but because it is 'off-white' and metallic with diamondbrite coating it never really seems to look that dirty.  If it does get a bit dirty and it rains it looks clean again,  or at worst a quick going over with a brush on a garden hose with a shampoo stick in it.

There is a photo of side of my wifes jazz in recent ' good quality polish' thread in care and detailing section, it is surprisingly shiny considering it has only been polished once in about 5 years and that was just with autoglym super resin polish last summer.

I agree, I think the red looks best with the black wheels and the red flash on the spoilers. Got mine from my local dealer and he gave me a fair p/ex and a nice discount as well. Floor the throttle and the mid range acceleration is just amazing. The car is much faster off the line than the 1.3 and I also thought it seemed better matched to the CVT tranmission.

I'm hoping that the Hybrid currently available elsewhere will eventually make it to the UK. That's a 1.5 coupled with their new electric assist system. My only concern is that it's DSG not CVT but I'm open minded on that.

The gearbox is explained here http://world.honda.com/automobile-technology/i-DCD/topic1/ (http://world.honda.com/automobile-technology/i-DCD/topic1/) (note there are three different tabs). The dual clutch configuration enables switching between engine and motor or using both.

Jazz 1.5 Sport CVT 500 mile Review

Having now covered just over 500 miles I thought it worthwhile posting my thoughts so far.

Performance is everything I had hoped for, particularly moving away from rest. There always seems to be sufficient power available. I have only used kickdown about 3 times and not even tried S mode or the paddles - D mode does everything I ask of the car. Overtaking  normally involves just a little more pressure on the throttle, whereas with my previous 1.3 kickdown was almost always needed for my style of driving.

Ecomomy. It is too early to give definite figures but mpg in the high 30s compared to the low 40s for my previous EX

Ride quality is dramatically improved over my previous EX. Everyone who has been in the car has commented on this. Bumps are well absorbed and ride is very comfortable with no detriment to the cornering ability.

The auto wipers seem to be greatly improved. After the first two wet drives when the system seemed to be self calibrating, I have just left the sensitivity adjustment at the mid point and it works well.

Overall I am really pleased I changed to the Sport despite the lesser equipment levels compared to the EX. I intend to have an after-market rear-view camera installed in the next few weeks.

Funny old world, some say the climate control does not work well, some say they can't live without it. Me, I can live with adjusting a knob once or at most twice a journey if at all, even though I have owned several cars with climate control systems. A choice between a 1.5 engine or climate control is a no contest for me.

Honda generally don't offer options other than metallic paint or sat Nov. Best hope would be a 'Sport Plus' model near to run out.

Yeah. Similar deal with the low(ish) profile tyres on the EX models. I'd rather have the more comfortable ride and cheaper tyres of lower spec models.
