Something to bear in mind about hpi checks is they only have records of insurance repairs, if a car owner has a car repaired at their own expense without informing their own insurer then it won't be recorded anywhere and won t show up, most likely to happen with cheap repairs like parking dents.

Sensible decision. Hope you end up getting the Jazz you want. I think they are wonderful wee cars.

Hi Alexs
Sorry to hear your tale of woe but like the others, there will be another coming along soon.
If you paid the deposit by credit card, which is always the safest way, then you should have no problem getting it back.  Look very closely if using Autotrader or the auction sites, there is a surprising number of Cat C/D or S/N or whatever the new classifications of write off are designated.  Other advice here has indicated using Honda Approved.  That too needs careful watching as I know only too well.  Their multipoint checklist can, with some dealers be something of a farce - in my opinion, best to take someone along without Rose tinted specs and check ALL paperwork and numbers.
Checking MOT history is always wise but only the first mk3’s will need one and then only one, so no paper trail yet.
A good friend of mine was also looking for a mk3 after we bought ours.  He lives in Lancashire and we are in Northern Scotland - he couldn’t find any deal in his area at the price we paid.  If you find something further North, the Honda Network should be able to move it to your area or it might be worth travelling for a better deal if the costs stack up favourably.

As above, I would walk away at that money. It certainly doesn't sound pristine, which it shouldn't be far from at that age. If there are signs of neglect that you can see, then you have to wonder about the the things you can't see.

Agreeing to fix obvious faults on condition that you take on a warranty and/or service package is appalling, even for a bomb site dealer.

I would either spend a bit more to get a better car from a reputable dealer, or be prepared to travel. In a few years when you come to trade up, you will regret buying tatty as you will get slaughtered on the trade in price. I bought our 08 plate trade for only £625 a couple of years ago mainly due to the mediocre repairs of corner scrapes, and to be fair it's been a good little car - but condition and signs of previous repairs kills residual values.

So Autotrader pinged up last night and I travelled and bought a very low millage HONDA JAZZ 1.3 I-VTEC S 5-DOOR from an official Honda dealer still under warranty (see my profile pic).

It doesn't have all the Gizmos I would have liked, like folding mirrors, parking sensors (I'm going to see if I can retrofit) and basic In car Entertainment (I can connect phone via Bluetooth, but I don't think it's compatible with Android Auto?).

I didn't get any of the extras offered, I could do so later.. that is:
Diamond Brite
3 years GAP
3 year service plan
12 months extended warranty
24 months extended warranty

Any of these things worth it?

Regardless very happy indeed - it's like a new car. I am exhausted however - it's taken a very long week off work to get here.

Thanks!!!

GAP insurance is cheaper online rather than through dealers usually, some companies will only let you take out this up until the car is 1 year old, others don't care, personal choice whether it is worthwhile. I have taken it out when my car's reach a year old as your normal car insurance company will usually replace it with a new one up till that point.

Glad you got your Jazz. From what I have read elsewhere on this site, the things you didn't get are the things others have had trouble with!

I would recommend the service plan if you are near a main dealer.  It should be a good deal cheaper than paying the dealer service prices.  I paid £550 for 5 years 3 years ago, but no doubt they've gone up a bit now.

Thanks, in case anybody is interested!

Their costs: £395 - Diamond Brite - wonder if I can do that much cheaper!
3 years GAP = £395 (I shall shop around if I need it - thx for advice)
Rear Parking sensors = £350
Front and Rear Parking sensors = £650
3 year service plan - £545
12 months extended warranty = £499
24 months extended warranty = £799

So I have more questions don't I?

With this 2017  HONDA JAZZ 1.3 I-VTEC S 5-DOOR:

Does it not switch the engine off when at idle at traffic lights. I asked the sales bloke and he said yes (sounded a bit vague however) - but on the way it didn't happen - although very low RPN at idle. No biggy if it doesn't I guess.

Has anybody got Android Auto app (on their phone) to work with the basic in car entertainment system? (Phone connects to bluetooth fine, can play music and do phone calls). Note this radio is fairly basic, that is bluetooth audio, DAB and FM, LW, MW etc. Not much else. Not sure what they call the model, it does have a big display panel.

And wow I thought it would be £30 road tax (like the older crap car I was going to buy) it was £145! I've yet to investigate why.

Thanks...
