Yes, I agree with all that John has said. The system seems to take its trigger, from the speed limit the camera sees, and compare that to the speedometer reading.
It is known of course, that most speedos read 1 or perhaps 2 mph optimistic, as compared with the satnav reading, which means in practice the ‘bongs’ are going off at lower that actual speeds.
I guess most Mk4 drivers know that the ‘bong’ volume can be turned down, but not completely off, in settings.
Having said that seems to me, that the ‘bongs’ are preferable to vibrating steering wheels et al.

Ultimately, concentration on watching the speedometer to try to avoid the bongs creates a new safety hazard.
I'm afraid of this as well. But how about using the traffic sign recognizing automatic speed limiter button on the steering wheel of Jazz? It would prevent the Jazz going over the speed limit in the first place, thus avoiding those three bongs, I suppose.

Do the bongs start at the speed limit or only when you are 1mph over ?

I must admit, trying to stay at 20mph or under is tricky
Let's be careful out there !

That might work in Finland, but in the UK the standard of signage results in too many false alarms for it to be safe. Maybe the sign recognition in the Mk4 is better, and can reject signs like part-time ones outside schools, or countdown signs (“20 limit 200 yards ahead”), and many others. It’s no fun driving at 60 on a dual carriageway, and the system suddenly reads a 30 sign on a slip road (from personal experience in my Mk3 … never used it since!).

I'll have to investigate the automatic speed limiter and see how hard I have to push on the accelerator to override it when it sees the wrong sign. I've got an example of the recognition near where I live with 20mph signs at the entrance of one road coming off a roundabout on a road that's 40mph. This is an old problem but I had hoped that, by 2025, Honda would have improved the sign recognition logic to take account of steering direction but the system is behaving as before but with added noise.

I'm getting bongs when the dash cam shows 20mph so I'm not over the limit. I also noticed when driving in a 30mph zone and the speedo showing 29mph (to avoid the bongs) then the radar speed signs were showing 27 or 28mph.

I suspect that the vehicles behind me in these situations are cursing yet another old driver in a Honda Jazz for going slower than necessary. I try to keep to the speed limits but don't like going even more slowly unless the conditions merit extra caution.

Question: I plan to visit UK and Scotland next summer. I have a European car, so in kmph instead of mph. So if my car spots a 20 mph sign, it will think it is 20 kmph. It is 32 kmph. Would that mean a constant bonging? Can I set it to mph somewhere (which would be ideal; no more bonging in EU unless your speed would be 60% too high  ;D)?

I’m just so pleased that my ‘23’ Jazz Advance was just before all these bleeps and bongs became legal

All I get is a little warning icon on the drivers display to indicate the speed etc. no beeps and no bongs  ;D

And us lucky pre-MY25 owners get even to turn off the distracting blinking of the icon!

Even better!

I’ve never found the icon to be over bearing though, just a gentle reminder  ;)

I've left the speed indicator on as well (as I find it sometimes quite usefull) but have turned off the blinking.

Thankfully I’ve never had the urge to switch anything off on my Jazz

Nothing is too annoying so far!

You can change from kmph to mph in the steering wheel home button settings, Page 159 owners manual

Years ago, can't remember whether it was the 8G or 9G Civic, UK models could switch to kph but some overseas models could not switch to mph

Need to check the appropriate manual as posted

When you change the display   from KPH to MPH several things change.  The fuel cars  consumption figures appear in Miles per gallon not l/100km . Remaining range will be in miles not KM .  The satnav  will operate  in miles so distances to destinations, route guidance, count downs to junctions etc will be in Miles ,Yards  or fractions of a mile .Speedometer reads in MPH,  Sign recognition  will know 20 etc  means 20 MPH and bongs  when you exceed that speed.

You quickly realise what a weird system of measurement we have in the UK  ;D

But despite this I recommend changing the display to MPH while you are here.  The safe  speed  for the road conditions remains the same whether its displayed in KPH or MPH , and experienced drivers probably know if their speed is about right.  Having the display in MPH helps you, and the car warning systems, comply with the local MPH speed limits.

But distances to places   displayed by local road  signs ,and satnav  requires some mental adjustment  .If a road sign shows its 50 miles to a town its easy to visualise this as a 50 km journey and  significantly underestimate the time and distance involved.

Enjoy your trip

Good for you!

Right next to my house is this combination sign which drives the sign recognition crazy!
It recognises this as a speed limit of 30 and doesn't realise it's the opposite (probably because the black bars aren't smack through the middle).

So, whenever I leave home the first thing the Jazz does is light up the 30 km/h warning sign and would keep it flashing throughout the entire city as there are no more speed limit signs...

If you don't find this annoying you truly must have the patience of a saint!
