10th generation Honda Civic
« on: January 10, 2016, 08:25:41 PM »

On sale later this year with 1.0-litre (127bhp) three cylinder or 1.5-litre (172bhp?) four cylinder turbocharged petrol engines and the existing 1.6 diesel unit. As part of Honda's global policy, the next Civic will use the same platform as the Civic offered in the US (see video below) which means the return of independent rear suspension after an absence of a decade, but alas the positioning of the fuel tank under the front seats is no more.

No estate version is planned but Swindon will become the global home of Civic hatchback production now that Jazz production has switched to Japan and soon the CR-V will depart for Canada.

And we wait to see whether the 3 cylinder turbo will also appear in the Jazz. Given that it should be able to beat the current 4 cylinder engine on both economy (at least in official tests) and power it could leave longevity as the 4 cylinder motor's key attraction.

  • My Honda: 2009 1.4 EX Manual - gone to a family member. Still look after it, and a 2014 EX driven by daughter.

I feel sorry for the workers at Swindon - I don't think that car is going to do them any favours.

That picture at the top of this thread looks so much like a 'flatterl HR-V I had to take a second look. The front end is definitely the same, and seems to take design cues from the previous CR-V, not the current one.

Shame about the fuel tank location. Magic seats in my Jazz's and the HR-V are awesome. A real Godsend with the way I load my dogs.

I hope they haven't abandoned the fastback shape of the last two Civics and gone down the more conventional Golf-like shape. The current Civic's shape is terrific, only the detailing lets it down.

I think this new global version broadly matches the 2016 US car, hence why they've dropped the space efficient European platform. Their current one seems a bit bigger than ours and has 2.0 4 cyl or 1.5 turbo CVT over there but the most popular US Civics are sedans (and they are complaining about the stereo).

The US is very excited that they may finally get a Type-R, and I wonder what Matt Neal will drive next year?
