Front tyre looks flat but pressure is correct?
« on: May 08, 2021, 03:31:47 PM »
Hello everyone,
Does anyone have the following issue or suggestions?
My front right tyre looks like it’s a little flat, but when I measure it, the tyre pressure is correct at 32 Psi / 2.2 bars.
I’ve tried releasing the air and then repressurise. Didn’t make any difference, still looks a little flat.
None of the other tyres have this issue.
Any ideas please?
Cheers!

The front RH tyre on pretty much every car I ever had always looked a little flat compared to other 3.  I got fed up of checking it and finding pressure was correct, so just thought it was because the main weight of engine is on that side,  and with UK cars there is always the weight of the driver on that side so tyre may get a bit more work to do in the way of sidewall flexing.

I agree - I happened to notice this (i.e. as in your image) again a couple of days ago.

That makes perfect sense: the added weight of the driver (who will always be there) will cause more stress on the tyre wall especially when hit against all the speed bumps etc on the road!
D’oh!!! I’m so glad that you and Hemming have both confirmed that it’s a common thing! Cheers!  ;D

You could also check the profile, if all four tyres don't match. 185/50 will look flat compared with a 185/55.

Thank you Jocko! I did check today and the tyre specs are the same as others.

You will find yourself looking at other cars now and will notice that pretty much all of them the front offside tyre looks low on air.....

After following this thread I checked my front tyres today and I couldn't see any difference, so I measured them and they are both the same. Mind you, both tyres are fairly new, so they perhaps have not had time to settle and I always keep them a couple of psi over recommended.

It could also be the camber of the road you're parked on.

Radial tyres do tend to "slouch" compared with the older types.

Right enough. I was parked on a flat area with no camber.
