I am going way off beam but this is in respect of Jocko's comment about being in his 70th year and being able to see the possibilities technology brings:
I am deaf, I have two hearing aids, one I am told is useless as I have no hearing in my left ear. Because of constant noise the hearing specialist's answer was to turn the sensitivity down on my right  aid ( 50% hearing in right ear unaided).  So much so that I cannot follow TV and my Wife has to repeat everything. Specsavers, who do NHS work here, did suggest me spending some £2,500 to £3,000 which MIGHT cure the problem.
So I asked my Dr for a referral to the Audiology dept at the hospital in the hope some sense might prevail.
I had to have my ears checked for wax. Left ear needs attention. So Nurse said irrigate it. I told her that the last time I needed attention I could not have irrigation as I suffer with Tinnitus I had to have specialist suction. I was quite happy for the old syringe job. So attended, Drs  a little tube was put in my ear a quick buzzing and all done. Total time about 2 mins. NOW, I hope you haven't gone to sleep.
THIS TIME Nurse said NO you can't have the 'suction job 'at the Drs  WHY? Because of cost cutting. Where will it be done?  Oh either Exeter or Barnstaple Hospitals BOTH 45  miles away.  So the local commissioning group is going to save a few bob and the cost of traveling etc of course is not theirs. The idea behind the lorry trains is to save fuel!!!!!!!
So the piece of technology is sitting at my Drs and can't be used.
What is the point of technology when cost cutting comes to the fore.
It seems I can't have the suction jobby done at the same as I attend Audiology.
Thank you for your patience.

Have a look at this website (there's an App too). Claims it can help tinnitus sufferers. I mainly use it to jut provide a pleasant background soundscape to help me focus at work when I have a report to write.
