Dirty rear & sides
« on: January 16, 2022, 02:14:50 PM »
The aerodynamics on the Jazz seem to cause a lot of dirt on the tailgate - more than other cars I’ve had.

This was after only a couple of motorway trips over the last few days - other cars on the road weren’t as dirty:

There is also quite a bit of buildup on the sides, but thankfully the aerodynamics mean it stops below the window line:

The front also gets a lot of dirt - something I’d noticed in the summer with the number of flies.

A lot of the dirt is around where the front grill is on the crosstar, so the ‘blanking plate’ grill on the standard jazz does seem to be for the aerodynamics:

I’d agree with this completely. I wash my car in the Sunday, by Tuesday the rear and sides are filthy, just from 10 mins on the m25.  Drives me crackers!

Same here but red doesn't show it up as bad.

I've had white cars before, never again.
Let's be careful out there !

Mid-grey shows the effect the least, of course.

Fully agree, all my Civics were either Galaxy Grey or Urban Titanium.

Problem was, grey came with the light interior and I've had them before and they turned shabby as well.

Black interior was mandatory so it was black, white or red. Black is a nightmare to avoid swirls so red it had to be.

Just as a side note - the rear of mine is filthy but the sides are still clean(ish) I put that down to my mudflaps :)

Something I noticed on mine is the rear wheels were much dirtier than the fronts, so likely mudflaps would help.

They push the airflow, and dirt, outwards a bit.

Agree totally, we have the Sunlight white and that is getting mucky at the back but the sides are fine…….we have the mudflaps and door protectors as part of the premium pack already fitted to the car which was a demonstrator from Warrington Holdsworth

My Crosstar is surprisingly clean in comparison to the photos above. Perhaps the extra garnish helps to absorb or deflet the worst of the muck. White, if course, is the optimum worst colour for showing dirt while the sunset orange option on the Mk 3 Jazz was excellent for absorbing dirt, the extent of which I only realised when I got round to washing the car once winter was over.

I don't really care that our Premium Sunlight White Pearl looks like The Dark Side of the Moon in the winter. Mainly the tailgate and rear window do catch a lot of dirt.
So I am very happy that there is a rear wiper with washer. At least that makes it possible to see something in the rear-view mirror.
If nothing goes right, go left!

With the mud flaps making a difference to the dirt on the sides, I wonder if the spoiler accessory would make a difference to the tailgate dirt?

Does anyone have one fitted?

I doubt it.

My understanding is that modern cars are computer modelled and airlow is a big factor. I wonder if the airflow is designed to 'push' the hatch to increase mpg ?

I'm purely guessing though, just tossing an idea into the pot :)

See this 'thing' on the 9G Civic. This addition took the 1.8 petrol into a lower UK road tax band via airflow :

Thank fully after having two black Volvo XC60 which get very dirty as soon as you have washed them. I now have a grey Honda Jazz and two trips to Scotland and back from the south cost and only gave the back window was quick wash. the car still looks reasonably clean.  It is supprising how dirty it is when you start to wash it.

All hatchbacks are prone to getting dirty quickly but the Jazz seems to be a dirt magnet... ::)
