Royal crash
« on: January 18, 2019, 07:18:03 AM »
It is with dismay I saw the news about Prince Philip's accident. There seems to be a large number of such accidents where an aged driver pulls out into the path of another vehicle, obviously having misjudged the speed of the approaching vehicle. So often, due to the side impact and the relative frailty of the aged driver, these end up being fatal. If the vehicles had been the swapped over I believe we would have been looking at a State funeral. Only the weight and strength of the Land Rover saved the Prince.
It will be interesting to see the eventual outcome of the event. A normal member of the public would be charged with a minimum of careless driving, and given the driver's age, probably ordered to resit their test. I hope the Prince sees sense and gives up his licence, limiting any future driving to private land.
I think that aging drivers should have their driving abilities tested on a regular basis. I had my driving assessed when I reached 70 and I will continue to do so, at increasingly shorter intervals, as long as I continue driving.
Being able to drive is a means of mobility and independence for aging drivers, but I hardly think the Prince would have difficulty getting driven about!

I have to agree with everything you've said here Jocko, but to be fair to the Prince, I know the road, it is full of these junctions with no view, that are tricky to get out of, there are accidents regularly particularly in the summer as the area gets mobbed with tourists. Happens here to drivers of all ages, this driver's just newsworthy.

That turnip Witchell (the BBC's Royal Correspondent) was talking about old folk maintaining their mobility last night, made me laugh. He could always use his bus pass, if there were any rural bus services left.

Well he's in Norfolk and good.

Maybe they'll charge him with driving without Duke care and attention.

I always suspected these rich folk preferred Rollers to Land Rovers.

I see the police are talking about possible charges being brought. Doesn't help that he told one witness he was a "fool" and another that he was "blinded by the sun"!

He'll get away with it, the Police are already making excuses, saying they have clashed with local councillors over the introduction of speed cameras on that road. It's inferring that the other party might have been speeding, and there's absolutely no evidence of that.

If it was you or I, we would have already been given the NIP for driving without due care & attention, at least.

It has now come out the old fool wasn't wearing a seatbelt and neither does the queen apparently.... When they said driving on Sandringham estate I thought it was private roads, but apparently not.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot
