Title: Thin paint / clear coat - anyone else notice this?
Post by: guest7642 on May 16, 2018, 10:39:36 AM
Hi All,

This is my first Honda.  I have noticed that in the door shuts, under the bonnet etc. The paint seems to be thinner and has no clear coat on it - lacks the gloss/lustre of the main panels.  Presumably a cost saving measure.  I have not ever noticed this on other cars and was wondering if it is the way Honda paints them (always / now).

It is not a problem as such but does detract a little from the feeling of quality.

For the record my jazz is sport blue metallic

On the very first imports the underside of the bonnet and inside the petrol flap had no top coat, only grey primer.
One of the reasons why I went for the tinted grey.
Difficult to tell the difference.

My orange SE and Skyride Sport are like that, the visible parts of the door shuts have a full paint finish and all parts have / had a colour coat. Paint a few million cars like that and you save more than a few quid on paint!

My 2006 is not particularly shiny under the bonnet, or even the door shuts, But they all polish up the same as the rest of the body, when I take the trouble to do so.
