Full size spare wheel
« on: February 17, 2025, 05:25:53 PM »
Hello folks, just joined on behalf of my wife who has recently bought a 2107 Jazz EX auto.
Apologies if this has been asked before, but I want to get a spare wheel for her car, as at present it only has the emergency repair kit.
Her car has 185/55/16 tyres and I wonder if someone can tell me if this size of wheel/tyre will fit in the wheel well. I phoned our nearest dealer and they reckon not, but my research tells me that it should fit and I would prefer that she has a like for like replacement spare, rather than a space saver.
Can anyone confirm that a standard fit wheel will fit in the wheel well ?

I have a 2018 Jazz EX and a full size spare wheel fits OK.   I got an alloy wheel to match the ones on the car on eBay.   I believe there were changes to the sheet metal stamping of the boot floor on some late model Mk 3 Jazz that mean a full size spare will not fit,  but this should not affect your 2017 model.

After you fit a full size spare you loose the plastic moulding that fills the space and holds tools etc.  This means that the full size spare is only covered by the carpet in the boot,  and this has a tendency to sag into the centre of the spare wheel  -  you may need to fit a stiffner under the carpet,  or get a plastic boot tray

You will also need to get a jack and wheelbrace,  as these did not come with the emergency repair kit

I've had my 65 Reg Jazz for just over a month now and am really enjoying it.

I also got rid of the tyre inflation bits and pieces and ordered up the following which all worked well for me:

Wheel & Tyre
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363788951082

Spare Wheel Clamp
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186018938990

Jack

All the best

Peter

PS: I also swapped the 4 security bolts for standard ones as my daughter had just had problems with hers after someone had lost the key, and I bought a couple of small rubber wheel chocks for some extra stability.

Thanks for the info TD5.
I'm aware of the spare from the Wheelshop as I bought one from them for my last car, which I'm trying to sell.
Shame you didn't buy the clamp from them as well as it's cheaper than the Honda one.
I already have a jack.
I'm currently awaiting word from a local breakers yard about a used steel wheel and tyre, but failing that I might well buy from the Wheelshop.

I have a 2019 SE model. Will I be able to put a full size spare wheel in my car?

It depends -  you will need to measure the wheel well and compare it to a full size wheel.   If it is too shallow you should be able to fit a space saver wheel.   There is a previous thread on this blog that gives  much more detail about what will fit and not fit

Look underneath the foam insert beneath the boot floor. If there's a fitting with a threaded hole to take the bolt that secures the spare wheel in place, then you're OK. If that fitting is missing, the recess is certainly too shallow for a full-size, and you may not even have room for a space saver without having a lump in the boot floor.

You can also look underneath the car. Shallow boot floor is made to give space for fuel tank ventilation charcoal filtration systen. So if there is a sturdy tray underneath the boot floor, it's the shallow model. If there is nothing, it's the full size well.
