Sensor issues after stolen CAT
« on: May 21, 2019, 03:31:24 PM »
I am looking for some advice as relentless searches have turned up nothing specific to the issue I'm having.  Some idiot decided to hacksaw off my CAT, in doing so they also cut through the cables for the pre and post CAT sensors.  I replaced the exhaust and both sensors.  The pre-cat sensor then came up as a fault code, it said that there was no activity (voltage static at 0.45v).  This sensor was replaced with a more expensive Bosch one, it worked for a short period (~10miles) and then the same fault code arose.  This sensor was replaced with another Bosch, same issue.  Finally an NGK sensor was fitted and again the same issue has occurred.  I cannot believe all 4 sensors were faulty, is this an issue from the ECU, a wiring issue or something not considered.  It is a huge pain as with it not working the car runs but must be burning more fuel than needed and I'm worried about knock on issues from this.

Welcome. The world is full of scotes. Sounds to me like it could be a wiring issue and possibly before where the cut was made. They would not be too gentle as they hacked through it. I would suggest the services of an auto electrician would be a good plan.

This post https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=10393.msg63844#msg63844 in another similar thread mentions needing to get a specialist to clear the sensor warning from the ECU.

Hi PRiches I know its a long time since your post but I now have the same problem.  Did you get to the bottom of it?  I imagine clearing the codes didn't fix it as you said the errors came back.  I'm getting codes P0131 and p0132 see attached, I see they are both sensor 1, which I assume is the pre cat sensor, low and high voltage respectively.

The 'stored' codes are historic, and should disappear once reset. I know others have had problems resetting these O2 sensor codes with an ELM327 OBD device.

Not sure why it shouldn't work, it is all through the engine ECU.

An update on our cat theft and replacment (a non Honda garage replaced the cat and sensors under insurance).

The EML was coming on every month or so afterwards, particularly on a motorway up a hill.  I code read them: 2 errors one on each sensor. P0131 and p0131.  We arranged to take the car back to the garage in March 2020 , I read the codes the day before, still showing.  They took it in and miraculously could not read any codes.  I put my reader back on and the codes had disappeared!  I have no doubt the garage just wiped them but can't prove it.  Giveaway was the hostility of the manager when, very politely, I asked the likelihood of the codes disappearing overnight.

EML did come on again after this but my partner whose car it is never arranged a date to go back and touch wood EML has not shown recently.  The garage insisted they put genuine Honda sensors on but I wouldn't believe a word they say. BTW they had originally failed to replace the plastic undercover the thieves had undone half of, and which I had carefully saved.  They threw it away!  The March 2020 visit was partly for them to replace that.

Garage is a coachworks co in Ashford Middlesex, PM me if you need to know who the cowboys are. 8)
