Steel wheels on Jazz 2012
« on: August 01, 2011, 06:40:50 PM »
Hi,
I am looking to buy a set of winter tyres for my 2012 Jazz
MyTyres are selling tyres already fitted to steel wheels.
Could someone explain the following numbers to me please?
4 x 100.00 x 56.00 ET: 45.00

"The tyre will be fitted on a 4-hole steel wheel: 15 inch 4 x 100.00 x 56.00 ET: 45.00 "

Mytyresco.uk are long establshed providers I would give them a call if you need more info, for more insight on wheels & tyres numbers I use a USA site here>
http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg4.html

Try out the tyre/wheel calculators on the site

So the 4 x100 = the wheels bolt holes  -4 and the PCD 100 is the dimension around the holes in the wheel

ET is the wheel  offset - prevents tyres rubbing on inside or wheel arch

Just for your information last year I bought 4 winter tyres on black-painted steel wheels from mytyres.com, on my GD Jazz, 14" wheels. They arrived about 3 days later, from Hamburg (you can track the journey in some detail from the german courier). The wheels seem to be the exact fit; I did wonder if the offset for example would be a compromise but it seems not. Not that I can find anywhere what the value should be, I even asked my local dealer who looked up wheels on his parts system but no information was available.
The only thing I noticed was the Load Rating of the delivered tyres was 86, not 82. This doesn't particularly matter (provided it's not less than it's supposed to be) but it might ride a tiny bit harder, not that you'd notice since the tyres are different anyway. Just check that when they arrive, or if you ring in your order ask them the question - I'd be interested to know what they say.
All in all I was very pleased with the purchase and strongly recommend winter tyres, it makes a big difference on the GD. They're stacked in my garage ready for action in November...

A quick update,
I ordered a set of steel wheels (15" x 5½" J ) with Nanking 175/65/15 SV1 snow tyres from Mytyres on Wednesday evening and they were delivered from Germany on Friday afternoon. £350

I've got the Nankangs (on the GD Jazz's 14" wheels). They got a good write up, and in the 3-4 months they were on last year (didn't get them till early January) they've lost less than one millimetre of tread on the fronts (that's about 3000 miles). I reckoned snow grip was 4 times better (over the Bridgestones), but what surprised me was the cold wet grip which was frankly amazing compared to what I was used to.

NB to others, if you're thinking of getting winter tyres, order them soon. All the Germans buy theirs well in advance, so there's none left come December.

Anyone know if the GD Jazz 15" SE type alloys fit the GE Jazz??  I've got a 2nd set for my old Jazz that have winters on them and was wondering if I could use then rather than hunting for another set of GE alloys.

TIA  :D

Hi - I have 4 steel wheels with snow tyres from Mytyres, similar experience as others, delivered in 3 days. I'll fit when the temperature drops. There are two issues I'm not sure about.
1. Can I use the nuts presently holding the alloys in place - they do seem to be right, a curved taper that matches the seats on the steel wheels.
2. do I need a cap to cover the wheel centre hole when the steel wheels are fitted?

If any one has any knowledge/experience I'd appreciate your comments.

Cheers

Nut issue - contact Mytyres for the definitive answer, but from what you say, I'd have thought they fitted.

Spoke to charming Germanic lady who told me they did not have a technical department & unable to advise me. My local parts shop/independent garage think they'll be ok but I was wondering if anyone had addressed the issue.

Cheers

I have tried one of the wheels when they first came and the wheel nuts on the car seem to fit - I intend using these when I put all the wheels on in the cold weather.

I wondered about this, it does look open to the elements, I am looking round for a set of wheel trims

This is a vauxhall Corsa website but has some useful information (and it looks like Corsa wheels are closest match to Jazz).

http://www.allcorsa.co.uk/forums/showthread.php/pcd-offset-explained-4268.html?s=c153c8393035a244e73cd427c36bff9d&

seems that 4 x 100.00 x 56.00 ET: 45.00

4 holes on 100mm PCD (pitch circle diameter) (circle drawn from centre of axle that goes through centre of the stud mounting holes).

56 is the diameter of the spigot (in mm) in the centre of the wheel hub (this is a VERY important dimension as it centres the wheel on the hub and takes the load off the studs).  If this dimension on the wheel is too small it will mean that the hole in the centre of the wheel will not seat correctly on the hub and will try to bend the wheel when you tighten the studs. if it is too large it means that  the load of the car will be taken by the studs and not the spigot, and could mean that the hub will move around and slacken the studs off, or possibly cause studs to break. Either way it will be very dangerous.

45 ET is offset of the rim(45mm) , if this is wrong it can cause the tyre to hit the car suspension  and also upset the steering geometry, according to the forum +/-5mm should be OK.

Look at the post further down the above website and it lists wheel parameters for quite a few cars.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

I bought new alloys from `Performancealloys` with ET 35. Each of the wheels are out by 10mm now and all the bearings are fine (after 23000 miles). They say ET45-35 are good for Jazz (haven`t asked the other sizes above 45).
