Wet Honda!
« on: October 30, 2011, 10:07:52 AM »
Hello,
I have a one year old Jazz SE 1.4. Ever since we had the car we have been plagued with condensation on ALL windows. The other day I drove 45 miles before I had got rid of it all. To do this I have to have the fan roaring (not nice) and the air conditioner on (not wanted) and the flow setting on 'demist'. Coupled with this is a rattle under the front right hand fascia. I wonder whether something has come loose? or the air flow is blocked somewhere? or a drain pipe is blocked somewhere?
Help, I can't see where I am going.
David

Check for dampness in the floor mats - any body water leaks will end up there waiting to evaporate.

Thanks.
I have checked the floor mats and everything inside the car seems to be dry.

Is this a warranty-worthy return to the dealers?

Not sure what you mean but the car is only one year old.
The condensation was reported shortly after we had the car and the garage 'checked' it with no result.
The rattle appeared later and that has also been checked without result. I get the feeling that there is no air flow through the car and also possibly either an air blockage or a water drain blockage somewhere , but I'm no mechanic!

Is the Air Conditioning really working?  Is cold air emitted from vents when AC is called?  Without AC many modern cars do tend to mist badly.

Thanks,
The air conditioning seems to working well. It clears the screen and other windows when switched on although I have to increase the air fan speed.
Are you suggesting that modern cars tend to need the air con. on permanently?

Something I would check is the pollen filter clean and also make sure that the recirculate button/knob is off.

Because if the recirculate is on for a long time then misting will occur.

Also try cleaning the inside of all glass with a glass cleaner like autoglym cleaner polish.

I have used that for many years and I found it helps prevent  misting especially during the colder months.

I was just going to mention that. Centre bottom of the dash are four buttons. The left hand one is to demist and clear the electric mirrors. Are you using that?

My last 2 cars - A Civic and VW Golf did not not need AC permanently on, but did not demist very well in bad weather without it - normal warm air demisting was very poor.  My new Jazz ES - it remains to be seen, but I suspect that it will be similar.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I have checked that the airflow is not re-circulate. The pollen filter is 'new' and seems quite dry. I use the demist button as well.
I am interested in your suggestion to use a specialist glass cleaner. For the first time I have tried to wipe the inside of the windows and they seem to have a layer of something which smeared until I rubbed hard. What it is I don't know but I will try the cleaner.
 Thanks again all.

What that is 'traffic film' from the interior plastics. Just use a good cleaner like one from autoglym and you should be OK

Thank you again for your wonderful suggestions. The link particularly, gives me plenty to think about and I realise that I may not be alone in having a problem with condensation.
Of course, the real problem for me is that I drove a variety of Mazdas for 25 years and never ever had a problem!
Thank you once more,
David

check to see if there is a water leak in the spare wheel well.  I have the same problem with the windows steaming up on my Jazz, usually when I have not used it for a couple of days.  It is because there is a water leak in the boot and it is the condensation steaming the windows up. :(  Apparantly this is something that Honda will repair under warranty if your car is not older than 6 years old and is something to do with a faulty seal near the boot hinges?  Hope this helps.;)
