Service extras again
« on: May 09, 2023, 11:46:15 AM »
But not an engine oil flush.

Crosstar booked in via online booking for 2 year old service in June. Confirmation came back with the following:

“We do have one recommendation while the vehicle is with us and that is the front wheel allignment check for £9.99, it is recommended due to potholes and bad road conditions. Please let me know if that is something you would like done as well.”

Thoughts?

Really depends on your mileage, (2 years for me would be around 18k) but if the cost includes correction, if necessary, then Yes I would have it done.

Mileage will be 8500.

After a quick search, most tyre specialists want £30 to check AND adjust tracking. I will enquire, but pretty certain the £9.99 is a check only, adjustment if required would be extra.

Do you remember hitting any serious potholes and/or does your tyre wear look odd ?

As you hint, a check may result in unnecessary work.
Let's be careful out there !

If you know you have hit some potholes quite hard  then maybe.  If you took a really hard hit then yes,(You should have had it checked for safety straight away) .  If you know you havnt hit  potholes of any significance , I'd say no.

But a bit of a money spinner IMO. Whats next?   optional extra wiper blade checks because march 2023 was the wettest in England since 1947?

No, I do not recollect hitting any serious potholes, tyre wear is as it should be, car steers straight so tracking is not something I would want to adjust unnecessarily.

I also don’t like the £9.99 for a “check” when my cynical mind tells me there will be the inevitable follow up call recommending it be adjusted for £30 or whatever.

A lot of the "quickfit" type places offer free alignment check, however I found that they always say the tracking needs adjustment which has to be paid for, I've never had a free check where they've said all is ok!
