front left tyre scrubs on full right turns
« on: December 18, 2022, 02:17:31 PM »
anyone else have front left tyre feels like it is jumping or scrubbing on full right lock slow turns but nothing at all on full left lock turns

there is no tyre noise or any other clicking or clunking noise and no uneven tyre wear it just feels the car is jumping

do you just think a tracking job will sort this porblem out as there are no noises from the suspension or might it be something else

it went though an mot and service in september and nothing was said about loose suspension components

I have experienced the same with my Mk 1, despite having the tracking laser checked and also with no detriment to the tyres. I just put it down to extreme lock in that direction.

I've had this on my previous Jazz and also a Volkswagen.
I was reluctant to use full lock in the end.
It will be alright in the end, if it's not alright then it's not the end !

It's a normal effect of this setting.

At low speed, especially in reverse gear and full right/left lock, the wheel with less weight can start "jumping".At higher speeds, external wheels have higher weight/pressure on them, so no jumping.

the thing is it only does it on right hand turns and not left hand ones and the external wheel is the one jumping (left wheel on right hand turns) it doesnt happen on left hand turns, but like you say the extra weight in the car is me so that might be stopping the the tyre being pushed forward on left hand turns and right tyre

and seeing as the wear on the tyre is the same on both sides i am in two minds getting the tracking seen to as last car i did it on they left the steering wheel off centre

Just kept slightly off full lock and left it as it was, you can worry too much about these things.

just an update after noticing all my tyres were 29psi i bumped them up to 33 all round and now the jumping has dissapeared even on wet road, it might have been due to wet leaves or some ice etc but seems ok now

thanks for the replys

Mine does it even though the fronts have 33 in them.
BUT
It may be the excessive weight of the driver
