Difficult Starting iVTEC 1.4
« on: August 07, 2022, 02:53:45 PM »
Today the car had a bad time starting. First it almost started but didn't. Then it cranked and cranked and little bit by bit started to pick up and go.

Basically it seems like it was not getting fuel. Tank is full.

It has been sitting in very hot weather for slightly more than 1 day.

Started, drove around and no problems. I'll try again after sitting a few hours.

Is this a common problem for this car?

My thought was vapour lock in the injectors but I dunno. Could be fuel pump on the way out. Does it have an electric tank pump and a chain driven high pressure?

When you turn on the ignition, the electric pump primes the injectors. I normally wait until the warning lights do their check before trying to start the engine. Gives the pump time to do its thing.

I've had no repeat issue over the last week despite some long drives and hot weather. Will report back if it reoccurs.

Could be worth trying fuel cleaning products such as redex. I had a similar problem with my car and putting in a load of redex to clean the system out

Vapour lock caused by hot weather evaporating petrol in fuel lines near  to injectors?

Weak battery perhaps?
