Hello from Ireland
« on: July 19, 2022, 11:41:37 AM »
I have just bought a new Jazz Hybrid for my wife after many trouble free years from a Toyota Yaris Mk 1.
Please see post in RDMS & winter for first impressions, not good I'm afraid.

Excellent forum, I found answers to my queries.

Welcome Paul.
I had pleasure of getting mine down from Co Antrim to Cork last autumn.
Plenty of older Jazz models (and endless mk1 Toyota yaris) in Cork, so your local dealer must be going strong. Sadly getting replaced by SUVs that are a little wide for the roads..

The lane (& road ) departure system bugged me at the start. I would always switch lane departure off. Now I leave it on.
On urban roads I'll get one of two twitches every journey. And generally it is just feedback, it will not actually steer the car that much.
It encourages you to not cut over white lines and to use the indicators.

EU regulations have brought similar systems for all new cars, and these are likely to equally frustrating unless on the top of the range models. Folk here have mentioned that other cars can have lane departure switched off permanently off rather than having to switch off on each trip.

But it has its uses. As a student, I(and all my passengers) fell asleep at wheel returning home after night out, and got woken by flashing lights of approach ing car.
We were lucky. So it only needs to prevent that once in its lifetime to make a difference. Likewise for drowsiness, alcohol and more rigid speed limiters. All coming std now, and will make a difference in 10 yrs.
