Welcome. I use Comma X-Tech 5w-30 Fully Synthetic for my 56 plate 1.2 DSi. Have done for the three years I have owned it. About £20-£25 for 5 litres. Car now has 113,000 miles on the clock.

Well it depends where you are located, but in the UK the recommended grade is 0W-20.

Shell, Castrol and Petronas are brands that come to mind but there are others.

Just read the specs on the oil container label match the specs in the owners manual.

I'm currently using Nissan Platinum 5W-30 Fully Synthetic, made by Elf oils. Any decent branded full synthetic of your preferred grade is more than good enough with a decent quality filter.

Shell Helix Ultra Pro 5W-30 fully synthetic currently on offer at ECP on ebay, £17 for 5L

You will get opinions on here,  but if you want technical reasons and details suggest you contact Honda or the oil makers.  There are plenty of suitable oils out there - depends on what you want to pay.  Plenty of opinions on oil in previous threads on forum.  I personally don't like ulta-thin oils that IMHO are specified for MPG rather than long term protection  - but that is just me, I won't go below 5W-30 - especially for a 2006 model with a few miles on the engine.

I would tend to dispute that. The handbook that came with the car in 2006 only recommends 0w-20 for the most extreme of European low temperatures which I would consider Scandinavia, the Baltics, and parts of mainland Europe. Opie oils actually recommends 5W-40 for my model https://www.opieoils.co.uk/f/2354/11444/2006/engine-oil.aspx

My son-in-law. a professional mechanic, who works for Bear Scotland, was discussing oils with an oil company engineer. John mentioned to him my penchant for thin oils (I was at that time using 0w-20), and he said that it was not a good idea on a high mileage engine. The engineer recommended using nothing thinner than 5W-20 for a high mileage engine, a suggestion that I have followed ever since.

Having checked with Honda UK some years ago their recommendation was at the time 0W-20.

Having just checked a couple of websites the same 0W-20

http://petronas-uk.ewp.earlweb.net/en_GB/equipment/jazz_1_3_gd1_ii_FawEcWaz7?q=honda+jazz+2007

https://www.shell.co.uk/motorist/oils-lubricants/lubematch.html#iframe=L21vdG9yaXN0L29pbHMtbHVicmljYW50cy9sdWJlbWF0Y2gvX2pjcl9jb250ZW50L3Bhci9pZnJhbWVkYXBwLnN0YXRpYy9pZnJhbWUtMDEwNDE5Lmh0bWwjL2diL2VuLWdiL2VxdWlwbWVudC9qYXp6XzFfM19nZDFfaWlfRmF3RWNXYXo3

The oil for a low mileage engine is different to one with higher mileage, to maintain oil pressure when the bearing clearances have worn needs higher viscosity.  Oil companies still sell 'high mileage oil' not that it does more miles between changes but it is for engines with higher mileage.  I would use 0W-20 if I lived inside the arctic circle, but in temperate UK climate - nahhh.

Same here. My engine has done 113,000 miles and I am happy with 5W-30. As I have said elsewhere, the 0w, 5w, 10w only pertains to cold oil in the sump, and once the oil is circulating and hot then the second number shows the protection. Choice of oil, like so many other things in life, comes down to personal preference. It is not as if the 5w-30 I use is not recommended by Honda.

This is from the owners manual supplied with my 2006 Jazz.

Judging by the time of the original post they could be "down under".

As I said earlier - depends what you want to pay - 0w-20 tends to be a fair bit more expensive than 5W-30 and 5W-40, 10W-40.

In a hotter country I would use 10W-40.

OP could either be in a country far, far away or an insomniac or working nights in UK.

I'm happier with the extra protection from 5W-30, maybe at the expense of a fraction of a mpg, that's plenty thin enough for the UK climate - if that's where the OP is.

I would trust Castrol, and they recommend Edge 5W-30 LL

https://applications.castrol.com/oilselector/en_gb/c/recommendation?data=4ef8ccc26f4f7560dcc9057810fb0f93

Opie Oils recommend 5W-30

Haynes recommend 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-30 or 10W-40.

API SN/CF if the highest rated oil currently available, SJ, SL or SM is also acceptable for the mk 1 Jazz.
