With the desert water, they added a teaspoonful of diesel, to improve the flavour of the tea.

You can also cook your dinner on the hot exhaust manifold.   Fish in tin foil is supposed to work well.   :-*

This talk of drinking water from a radiator reminds me of that fabulous film, Ice Cold in Alex. If you don't know it please look out for it.

Hi Neil
These ambulances were known as K2s we used them in Casualty evacuations collecting from various airport locations and transporting  the patients to various military hospitals in UK
The ambulance in the film was called Katie or Katy not sure  which now but the K2 resemblance  speaks for itself.
You brought back many memories of these super vehicles no cab doors just a  half height canvas flap with fixings.
Between the seats was a flap in the floor with a tap to swap over fuel tanks when  required.

When I was a cub scout the local scout troop had a Bedford MWD truck  .( or rather the adults  used it as an excuse to have one)   It seemed ancient to me, but as this was about 1962 it may have been  less than 20 years old at the time. Very rugged, but they were only 2wd.   I travelled in it a few times , in uniform  ;) ;D
