Is it worth fitting those HEL brake lines (for day to day use only)?
I`m thinking about to replace mine because getting 10 years old in September...
What is the lifetime of those braided lines (does it last as long as the "normal" ones)?
I`m surprised you did not fit Brembo brake disks and pads...

Hi DV.

I'm not sure if it's worth fitting braided lines purely for day-to-day use, but if the stock flexible lines need replacing, the HEL braided lines are a good choice at less than £70. I don't know the cost of a set of Honda flexible lines, but i could almost guarantee that they would be more than the HEL ones...
I know nothing about the lifetime of a set of st/st braided brake lines, but i would imagine that it would be longer than the OEM rubber coated ones. The main advantage of braided lines are that they can handle higher pressures without bulging, giving you a better feel through the brake pedal.

Why do you say that you are surprised that i didn't fit Brembo discs and pads?
Brembo only make plain vented discs for the 2002 Jazz, so the OEM ones will be just as good. If i could have got drilled or grooved discs, i would have snapped them up, but unfortunately i couldn't find any.
As for the pads, the Ferodo DS2500 pads are an extremely good pad, used mainly for racing, but still work well on the street. Much better than a basic Brembo pad.

I`m not an expert on brakes that`s why I thought Brembo is the best one...
Thanks for your answer!

Yeah, Brembo are a very good manufacturer, but as they only made stock replacement items for my Jazz, i decided to go for the Ferodo pad option.

I'm really happy with them so far, once you get a little heat in them they perform very nicely. I used the DS2500 pads on my last two vehicles and performed excellently.
They are pretty expensive, but i would highly recommend them for any track/fast road use.

Just a little update...

I had my HEL Braided Brake Lines fitted last Friday (30th) and had the brake fluid replaced with Motul RBF600.
They also carried out a full brake system check, the printout is below.

The figures don't mean that much to me to be honest, but it was good to see it purely so i know the weight of my car, 1022kgs (with a full tank of petrol, full interior, mats and spare wheel etc).

It feels pretty good, less spongy than before anyway...  ;)

Hi Remould,

Going to have the lowering springs fitted tomorrow by a rally specialist who lives close by. He told me he never worked on a Jazz before - was fitting the springs and camber bolts difficult? And how long did it take you?

Thanks

Sorry about the late reply. I haven't been able to get Tapatalk working on my phone recently and didn't realise you had posted on my thread.  :-[
How did you get on with having your new springs fitted? Hope everything went all-right for you.

Fitting the springs is a relatively simple task, it took me less than 2.5 hours.
The rears are simple... Jack the back of the car up, remove both lower damper bolts (one each side), lower the rear axle and remove the springs.
The fronts take a little more time... Jack up the front of the car, remove the wheels, disconnect the brake pipes from their mountings on the front dampers, unbolt and remove the drop links from the dampers, remove the two lower hub bolts then remove the 3 nuts on top of the dampers (under the bonnet. You can then withdraw the complete McPherson strut assenbly from the wheel arch.
With the strut on the ground, remove the nut on the end of the damper piston rod (you should use spring compressors, but they aren't needed on the Jazz Springs), remove the top mount, unclip the dust boot and remove the spring.
Fit the new springs in reverse.

Hope this was of some help (although it's probably too late).  ;)

Steve.

Last Friday (13th April) i attended my first track day of 2012, it was with Hondas on Track (HoT) at Castle Combe.
I was itching to get back out on track, but a little dubious of how my little Jazz would perform with allot of faster/more powerful machinery on track with me.  ::)

Here are a couple of photos i took on Thursday, the day before.

Car freshly washed, hoovered and copious amounts of RainX applied to the windscreen:

Rear seats removed (to shed some weight) and everything packed away (Track Tyres, Oil, Fuel, Water, Tools, Pump, Helmet & Gloves etc):

I set off from home at 5am on the Friday morning and battled through thick fog on the M4 to get there just before the gates opened at 7am. I was the first to arrive at the track so i set about unpacking my car and getting it ready for the day which involved fitting my track wheels & tyres and attaching the front tow hook.
The day was divided in to 4 sessions per hour, us at HoT were on track that the beginning of every hour (9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm), the other 3 session per hour were filled by Lotus on Track (LoT).
The Castle Combe track is approximately 2 miles long, and with just 12 cars on track at any one time, there is plenty of room for everybody.

Here are a couple of photos that i took before the first session.

My little Jazz (ready for action):

And some of the others members of HoT:

As far as my day went, i had an absolutely brilliant time. My little Jazz performed really well, brakes worked perfectly and she handled surprisingly well. I was achieving somewhere around 95-100mph at the fastest point on the circuit and i even caught and overtook an Integra DC2 in one session!  :o Lol.

All in all, i had a fantastic day. I'd highly recommend joining HoT for a track day if you like this sort of thing. They are an excellent club which take great pride in their driving skills and track manners.

Here are a couple of other photos i found posted online:

Hope you enjoy looking at the photos etc.

Steve.

Keep posting Steve, thoroughly enjoyed reading about your track day and looking at the photos.

It is interesting to see what other Jazz owners are doing with their cars and also like seeing the images of modified cars posted on the Gallery forum.

My Jazz is a lease vehicle so it has to remain totally standard!

Thanks for the kind words Aitcho, I'll hopefully have a few more photos from the event soon.  ;)

Yeah, you should come along to one. It would be great to have another Jazz out on track with me.  ;D

No, i don't think HoT hold any events up in Scotland. There is an event at Croft later in the year, not too many hours from the Scottish border.
