There is a better and cheaper way of buying tyres these days .
You order and pay for them online and then get the company's local garage to fit them
Most of the major company's do this

They do, but in my experience, they're no cheaper than going directly to the cheapest local tyre fitters. After all, it's just adding another party making a profit from the deal. The very best fitted prices are usually around £12-£15 per tyre above trade price. After costs, that doesn't leave a vast amount of profit for the fitter, and he has to be paid no matter where the tyres come from.

I fit my own tyres primarily for the convenience, living in a rural area. If I lived in a town near a decent tyre fitters, I wouldn't bother, it's not really worth getting your hands mucky for a tenner or so.

I used them a few times when they first started up, no problems at all. Fitted prices are pretty good, the only reason I don't bother with them now as their supply-only prices are no longer competitive once you add delivery costs on. I think they mainly concentrate on the all-in fitted market these days.

It's definitely worth checking with several suppliers or tyre fitters, especially if you want a specific tyre, as some wholesalers have better deals with certain manufacturers. I buy them wherever the tyre I want is cheapest, a tyre's a tyre.

This all started because I do not have a spare wheel or belong to a breakdown organisation which uses  a universal spare wheel.

I dont believe this.
When I went to the garage to get my tyre changed they had a break in overnight and were turning away customers.
Luckily as i had already paid online they were able to change the tyre.
I hope this is the end of this saga.

You know what they say, trouble comes in threes - puncture, tpms and now this. Hopefully you will have had your quota of bad luck for a bit, is it worth putting a lottery ticket on?

I suspect that with two new tyres now, you will have to recalibrate once or twice more!
