The injectors may excite a resonance in the engine block at specific timing instances. There are two factors that would play - timing of the injection and duration of the injection. Seems like longer duration injection is louder because the noise is stronger at high load.

I did consider it might be cam springs - high cam lift at specific RPM.  But I already checked and set the gap tollerrance on mine and it made no noticeable difference.

Would be interesting to know if the motor made these noises when new. I bought mine used.

Hi, I'm not sure if the noise I hear is similar but I have noticed my Honda Mk2 (2011) sounds something like that when I over-stress the engine at low revs. It was explained to me in the past that it's something to do with valves.
I usually drive on the higher side, using each gear a bit more as I like the sound and pull it has in 3-5k range :) that comes with fairly poor mpg of 46-52 depending on how much motorway travel is involved so I almost never get to hear it.
