Air Con problem
« on: November 15, 2021, 03:14:11 PM »
Previously  mentioned problem continued.
Went to aircon expert - he pumped up pressure and checked for leaks. None found. Then connected laptop to car but no mention of aircon problems. He sent me to a mechanic (who had a car lift) to check further. He found that the compressor was not working, and showed it to me. He suggested I order a compressor from the first guy. So I ordered one (£175), and arranged for mechanic to fit it. No improvement. He had gassed it up with nitrogen & suggested I go back to first chap for different proper gas up.

Off I went to first guy & again no difference. Connected his laptop up again & again nothing showing up.He suggested
that there must be a loose wire & gave me the mobile number for an auto electrician.

I fully trust the mechanic with the car lift. I have a question mark against the first guy.

I avoided the Honda dealer as I thought it would be too expensive.

Any advice for my next move. (ps I'm in my seventies and not as sharp as I once was).

I would avoid the first guy that you went to if he can't diagnose an aircon fault and not spot that the compressor wasn't working.

Vic.

I'm with VicW on this.  Never had an A/C specialist use a laptop for diagnosis.  The usual method is with pressure gauges and a soapy-water spray together with a multimeter / continuity tester.

Problem resolved. Took Jazz to local Honda dealer & they found a failed relay.
I asked if it were possible for compessor & relay to go together & he thought maybe.
Very pleased with the treatment here (Honda Derby) & the great coffee!

99% of Honda aircon problems caused by failed relay ( which if it fails closed can also flatten the battery in a few hours, there was a service bulletin from Honda on Civic aircon relay a few years ago - if it fails to close then compressor will not run ) - other causes are low gas, and damaged condenser ( caused by the useless lower grille in Honda bumpers, with holes big enough for a blackbird to fly through ), the hole in the condensor will obviously cause low gas.   I hate shonky garages who just replace big expensive lumps because they lack the skills to diagnose the failure of a £20 item.   The likelyhood of failed compressor and relay at the same time is very remote,  the failed relay stops the operation of the magnetic clutch that connects compressor to main belt drive operating which obviously stops the compressor performing any compression. Personally  would be wanting some money refunded.... I hope they returned you old ( but working ) compressor to you.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

There are some problems that I believe you really are better off getting a Honda dealer to diagnose.

Let's be careful out there !

Glad you now have it resolved.

Shame you had to pay for parts not needed but on the positive side ;D ;D you now know the compressor should last for a very long time and not need attention.

So my 2010 Jazz/Fit aircon internal fan stopped working and I could not understand why as I started getting really hot in the car (summer here in RSA). Later yesterday I drove the car and all was working 100%.

Today I tried to open the car and the battery was down to 0.8V after i manually opened the car and hood. The Car off was pulling 3.01A. I was going to buy a new battery and then decided to jump start the car and all was fine till I heard a hissing and saw a white mist on the left of the engine bay.

I removed the 7.5A fused labled 43 or 47 and now the standing draw is 0.2A

I hope I can get to the bottom of this with replacing the Relay.

Great post above as I almost just bought a new battery when there was major drain on it.

Thx
