Cracked my climate control unit!!
« on: June 26, 2025, 01:43:53 PM »
On trying to change the bulbs behind the climate control unit I followed the instructions that were in the manual. I got the head unit out and according to the manual there's only one screw (see picture) holding in the Lshaped climate control unit. I removed that, sprayed some silicone oil around, and GENTLY tried to pry it but lo and behold the face cracked just to the right of the rear defroster button!! is there by any chance another hidden bolt somewhere? Obviously not worth breaking a $600 part just to change bulbs.
UPDATE: thank you for these video postings  Although I'd seen some, I did not previously see the full dash removal video. Thank God I don't need to do that, but it looks like it would be necessary to remove the framing around the clusters in order to truly free up the L-shaped climate control unit. I'm going to try it this coming week and I'll let you all know how it goes. Thank you so much for your advice!

Where did you find the instructions on how to remove the climate control panel?

I need to do the same job (replace the bulbs), but cannot find anything useful in my Chilton manual (which seems to omit more than it includes!).

That's really bad luck.

Have you still got the rest of the broken clip? If yes, use a soldering iron to melt it back into position and then add two part epoxy glue around the two areas where the breaks were (the plastic will be thinner here as you have to melt the two faces together).  If no, then I'm afraid it's looking for a second hand part from a breakers yard.

As for instructions I used this video.

Useful video on the switch bulb replacement (which shows each step in replacement of bulbs that are not immediately obvious) however I think that the OP's problem, and mine, relates to the whole panel removal rather than an individual switch removal.

Can anyone give a link to, or explain, the correct procedure for removing the panel?

TIA

Did you manage to remove the climate control panel in the end?

I need to replace one of the bulbs in the control panel and there appears to be no way to access any of the bulbs without any major dismantling.

Have just removed my radio and unscrewed the climate control panel retaining screw but cannot get it to move. As you said that you cracked the panel I didn't want to break anything.

The whole design appears to be badly thought out and has now put me off the Jazz.

Has anyone had any luck with removing the panel to access the bulbs? All I have managed so far is to break some of the plastic at the back of the panel.

Had several attempts over the months but all I have achieved is to loose the screw on my most recent attempt. >:(
