Car interior cleaning
« on: October 30, 2024, 10:54:20 PM »
Hello all.

It’s time to do a thorough clean of the interior of my Jazz, and I’m wondering what tools, tips or tricks folks can recommend? How do you get the carpets and dash looking immaculate?

In particular interested in how you get all the bits and bobs out of the carpets - usually the bit that gives me the biggest headache. The vacuum I use doesn’t have attachments that are nimble enough to get into the hard-to-reach spots. Happy to get better tools but only from recommendations.

Also the seat brackets at the foot of the front seats, tend to gather a lot of dust and dirt - is there some sort of dust cover for these?

Even though I have a high power Dyson I still find my old trusty Henry does a better job using both the long 'gun' and brush attachments
Let's be careful out there !

Dont buy a special car vacuum cleaner. They are rarely anywhere  near adequate.  A powerful domestic machine with suitable narrow nozzle attachments  for crooks and nannies will do better.  If necessary you could make your own narrow nozzle ends  out of something like  a thick tinfoil  single use Turkey baking tray.

Be cautious with  cockpit shine sprays .They can do a good job of cleaning  but might make  steering wheels slippery, or increase sun glare on dash tops etc.    You can buy special types that leave a matt finish.

If pet hairs ,human hair etc is a problem  try wrapping sellotape, packing tape ,etc around your fingers , sticky side out.
I will fix that dripping tap.  No need to keep reminding me every 3 months.

There's also a product that we used to call "slime" as a child which is advertised on Amazon as a malleable gel which can be squeezed into crevices such as air vent surrounds to pick up the dust debris.

I bought a Wickes wet and dry a few years ago for £45. It's a fantastic device, a budget Henry I guess.

Product wise, I use Carplan Demon range. You can often find them for c£5 litre on sale at B&M etc and they last for ages so fantastic value. The Multi Purpose Cleaner is good stuff, but I never use it on the dash top as shine is the last thing it needs.

I know the thread is about interior, however, I recently tried some of this for wheels, I would rate it 10/10. Expensive per L compared to Demon, but more effective if you've been lax with cleaning and the wheels have a build up of brake dust and grime that needs shifting.
