I know this speed alarm is now a manufacturer wide implementation but the complaints across the forums I read are building

Whoever thought up and signed this off are not regular drivers. As has been pointed out, with the difference between car speedo and true speed you could be 'beeped' when you're not actually speeding

Then there are the many reported false sign readings that trigger it, some seem to be speed roundels on the back of large vehicles

Let's be careful out there !

Another problem with this technology is that the cars speedometer reads 2mph faster than the satnav, so the car will beep at you even though technically you haven't actually exceeded the speed limit.
Its always been the case that car speedos have read low, by up to 10%. Erring on the side of safety.  I doubt a new safety system would  be fully effective if it led to an overall increase in speeds by 10%.

My old garmin standalone satnav always displayed my actual speed using GPS, more accurate than the car speedo . (confirmed by those speed cameras that display your speed as a warning)     Thus i would often cruise at 70 mph on the satnav, showing about 75 mph on the car.  Legal speed, but using up any 'leeway' allowance on a speed camera.       But occasionally you would encounter a 'righteous' driver who felt it was their duty to impose the speed limit on others by lane blocking. 70 mph on their speedo , but in reality they were only doing  about 65  mph   >:(

The Honda Garmin doesnt display your actual speed.  Does the new one ?
I will fix that dripping tap.  No need to keep reminding me every 3 months.

50 grand is a lot of money for an annoying beep I told the salesman whom was trying to sell me a hrv yesterday, why ruin a perfectly good car with such a stupid feature that you can't permanently disable I said, it's the law from Europe he said.

We are not in the Europe any more thanks to some blonde half head so why do we have put up with the cretinous beeping????

Late at night when I'm lying in bed I can still hear that horrid beeping, it will be with me forever.......

I regard ignoring  safety research by sensible countries  just because  they are the 'hated' EU as somewhat stupid, rather than a brexit freedom. I'm not saying all EU regs are  sensible, but do we spend billions  disproving the research  ?

I dont like the new EU regulation bottle caps where  the plastic cap remains tethered to the bottle. Once undone the cap folds to the side  but gets in the way and its fiddly.    IMO .    I always replaced mine for recycling anyway  but I suppose many didnt.  But I dont lose any sleep over it.

Of course the UK allows foreign investors to increase their profits by dumping raw sewage straight into our rivers . Freedom !

I suspect much of the ire about this is being directed at the wrong system. It's not the Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) that's the problem, that's doing it's job of warning about your speed (and you can always try the novel approach of not exceeding the limit!).

The problem lies with the separate system (sign recognition and/or GPS) that detects the speed limit and feeds that data to the ISA. That seems far too prone to errors (mis-reading signs, etc) and is just not mature enough to form part of a reliable safety-related enhancement.

I stick to the speed limit - at all times (when it is safe to do so).  But there are occasions when for safety's sake you have to briefly exceed the speed limit by a few miles per hour.  This is inevitable.  Are you saying that you NEVER have to do this?

So, your comment (as quoted) reads as somewhat self-righteous and sarcastic.

It was intended as a tongue-in-cheek comment, apologies if it offended you.

But now you've mentioned it, I'm not sure I can think of any circumstances when the safest thing to do is to exceed the speed limit. There will be occasions when it happens accidentally or because you simply want to, in which case the ISA will warn you. But safest??

Built up area's I more or less stick to the limit because of pedestrians, dual carriageways is where I like to give it some, that stupid beeping would spoil my fun.

You may as well take advantage of the lack of police caused by the tories, why should the Audi's have all the fun?  :P

Keeping to speed limits is my aim as well but not drifting over 20 is a task in itself

I will admit that occasionally I will misjudge an overtake and realise the an oncoming vehicle is approaching faster than I initially realised.  He may even have speeded up.  ;) Often the safest option is to increase  speed to reach your intended safe landing space  that much sooner even though it seems illogical to increase your closing speed. On these occasions I concentrate on getting to safety, not whether i will be exceeding the speed limit, or setting off beepers. If I am spotted and reported for speeding, or dangerous driving then its my own fault.   It CAN be safer than  aborting an overtake by slowing down and hoping someone else will make room for you  . But its a judgment call, and you are in the predicament because of previous  poor judgment   :-[
.     Sometimes, regardless of breaking the speed limit it can be safer to drive with confident speed  rather than being over cautious and dithering  . When merging with faster traffic for instance. Thats why you can fail the driving test for failing to make progress.

Once, soon after i bought the mk4  I accidentally left a 40 mph speed limiter active. When It changed to 60 mph limit  I went for a perfectly safe overtake, but hit the limiter ,which suppressed the cars responsiveness.  Fortunately I had time to overide it by pressing hard on the throttle.   I can tolerate being bleeped at as long as the car remains responsive.

After 1200 miles in a new advance the bleeps haven't bothered me at all. Not very loud, and not that often  ;)
Easy enough to ignore if ,having been reminded to check ,I decide human knows better .   :P  (such as if it reads the  lower speed limit sign  from a side road  )

I thought it would drive me crazy, but it hasn’t taken long to get used to it. The bong isn’t too loud and it is only an audible alarm.

One trick I’ve tried is to use the intelligent speed limiter to keep down to the speed limit. The jury is out for me on whether I use that trick often.

That bong would do my absolute nut in. I wonder how much of the dash you would have to remove to get to the little speaker that makes the noise? Stupid idea. I don't speed often, but when I do roll a few mph over the limit, I don't need my car having a fit about it.

Fully agree

With this revelation that all new cars are to have this by law I'm glad my current Jazz will be my last car

With the proliferation of 20mph zones it's so easy to drift over that limit
Let's be careful out there !

Just wait for the next lot of proposed changes where the car will not be able to go over the speed limits. Daft idea yes, but that is what is currently being proposed in Europe
