Tyre recommendations
« on: January 11, 2025, 03:08:31 PM »
I am just approaching 26k in our 72 plate Jazz EX, and although the tread is a consistent 3mm on all 4 corners I realise that I will soon be looking for a new set.
I have been more than happy with the Yokohama Blue earths, but a quick internet search has shown that locally they are nigh on impossible to find. I could buy them online (£100), but then would have to pay to have them fitted locally.
I would be interested to know what others here would recommend as a 16" replacement tyre?

The choices for 185/55 R16 tyres are unfortunately limited :(

However, if you are looking for summer tyres in 185/55 R16 87H XL that are worth their money even in the wet, I can heartily recommend Michelin Primacy 4+ !

If you wish for all-season tyres, Michelin CrossClimate 2 may be worth a look:
https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rshop/tyre/Michelin/CrossClimate-2/185-55-R16-83V/R-442728
It has better snow traction than the Michelin Primacy 4+ suggested by coldstart. However, as a tradeoff, it doesn't have quite as short braking distance on wet road.

But if you desire to maximize fuel efficiency, then Continental EcoContact 6 might give you a couple more mpg.

ahavoja is quite right to suggest all-season tyres! From what my english friends tell me they are the perfect choice for the lower parts of England.
Just as a reminder have a look at this thread https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=17293.0

Try here, https://www.blackcircles.com price includes fitting at a tyre fitting garage near you, have used them many times over the years.
I forgot what I came to forget.

Thanks everyone for your input and recommendations.

I have decided that these TOYO might be worth a punt. I had TOYO on a Scenic years ago, and they were ok then. This model is high spec'd in comparison with the Michelin and Conti, but at least £40 cheaper. The reviews are good, and looking at other reviews on independent sites they score high too.

Car delivered with Dunlop Ensave EC300 tyres, never been happy with them in snow or wet or felt braking at best.

Recent rain convinced me time to change - all tyres over 3.5mm at 21764mls. and had been rotated throught life at 3000 mls intervals (approx.)

Replaced with Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 starting depths Depth across three grooves from outer to inner - 7.7, 8.2, & 7.9mm. Initial impressions - an improvement all round but more rain soon and bedding in will tell.

Tyres bought from National Tyres and Autocare (Halfords) and were £20 each cheaper at £100 than Black Circles who I have used many times before.

Tyre size - 185/60 R16 86H

My Blue earth initially fitted to the Jazz were very good, and even after 28k the back ones were still at 3mm. I swapped them for the TOYO as my previous post, and I really can't complain. Rated A in the wet, quieter than the Blue earths and so far at 2k, no wear visible and the handling has been excellent... and all this for £90 a corner.
