Fjord Mist looks really good. The choice of colours in available in the UK is very poor.

Fjord Mist, previously known as Surf blue, is uniquely a Crosstar colour in Europe.

Surf blue is different from fjord mist! It is more greyish and metallic. Saw both at my dealership; definitely not similar.

It is more greyish and metallic.
Unfortunately the same goes for "Premium Sunlight White Pearl" which is more grey metallic than white.

Beg to differ. The Premium Sunlight White Pearl, is a Pearl Pigment paint, not a metallic paint which contains Aluminium flakes. A pearl pigment is a Titanium Dioxide coated Mica and shows a flip/flop colour change depending on the light and viewing angle. The Sunlight White Pearl, is very white, but the flip/flop effect changes between a cool blue and a golden sheen. Maybe you consider the blue sheen as grey.

My Opel Corsa was  metallic 'nutmeg' brown. It was called nutmeg in German, which described it quite well  .In English it had a fanciful meaningless name.       90% of the time the car looked  an unremarkable metallic grey ,and in poor light a dull putty gray.       But on sunny days the brown  elements sparkled and the car constantly changed colours in a spectrum between Bronze, Champagne, Golden, etc    You never quite knew whether you would be returning to a grey car or a bronze one.    8)

Thank you for this clarification! (I was completely unaware of these details)

Maybe I'm not the best judge of colour minutiae like the finer details between "blue and golden sheen" and simply grey  :D

However, having owned several truly white cars I can assure you that "Premium Sunlight White Pearl" is everything but white to me!

If you don't believe me, hold a sheet of white paper next to the car and then tell me again that the colour with the unspeakable name still apears white to you (regardless of the lighting conditions).

I think we should change the colour name of our Premium Sunlight White Pearl into Premium Sunlight Something Almost Like Maybe Whitish Pearl.
But actually I think the colour (or colours?) are very beautiful and William S. already said: What's in a etc....

Thank you for quoting the honourable bard!

That motivated me to go down into the garage and test my own theory  ;D

(please keep in mind that this picture was taken in the parking garage under artificial light - the effect in daylight would be even more convincing!)

Addendum: I snapped a shot of a neighbour's "white" VW for what I consider to be a "white" car (taken under even worse light conditions but the apparent (non)difference between the brightness of the sheet of paper and the car tells the story better than I ever could)

I'm not sure its entirely relevant but the Adelson checker illusion is interesting

Interesting how our mind works!

In the present case I'd like to rule out the Adelson effect because there was no object casting a (partial) shadow over either the car or the sheet of paper.

I'm considering buying a new Jazz, but the colour choices drive me crazy. I wanted to go for Fjord Mist, but I'm confused. I haven't been able to see a car in that colour, but I saw a sample which looked very grayish for me, not blue, not even in sunlight, while all the photos (even the ones I took from the sample) looked light blue.
Do you also see Fjord Mist as grey? I wonder how's the visibility in foggy weather. My second choice would be Premium Red Crystal, as I like colorful cars, don't want a dull color. Too bad Surf Blue isn't available anymore.

My new advance is premium sunlight pearl 'white' .  The only white (ish) option on the advance.  Although its sort of white in some lights I agree with the others .It is very slightly blueish grey in other lights  .  Very subtle. You wouldnt call it a grey car  .  It is noticeably less white  when parked next to a  platinum  white car.  I quite like it, and the pearlescent finish appears to have the potential to be quite impressive when the sun finally comes out !

My EX was platinum white pearlescent.  I found it looked just like  base white  most of the time, only rarely showing any significant  pearliness.

The platinum white had shiny piano black plastic  trim around the windows. I was always fearful that  careless cleaning would take the shine off these. (I solved this by seldom cleaning the car  :P )  On the Advance they have a matt finish.
