No Aux socket
« on: November 15, 2020, 06:30:26 PM »
Hi,

My Mk 1 Jazz has a Tape deck, but no Aux socket.

A quick search of the forum sends me to this old post - https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=61.msg151#msg151 which sends me to http://www.hondafitjazz.com/audio.htm

As both post are quite old, some of the key images are gone from the external post.  Did anyone keep a copy, or does anyone have a better way of getting an Aux Socket installed?

It's no a big deal as both radio and tape deck (yes - I still have some tapes) still work, but I can see it would be useful to be able to plug my MP3 player in on long journeys.

Would a Bluetooth module plugged into the aux. socket at the back of the radio work for you as that is what I have done and it only costs £5 and no external cables required?

I thought the point was he doesn’t have an aux socket to plug that into. Which for me leaves two options..

1. One of those adapters that is a cassette and fools the tape player into thinking there’s tape going past.
2. One of those FM transmitters that plugs into your MP3 headphones output and creates a mini radio station that you tune your car radio to.

All the radios AFAIK have an aux socket on the back of the radio ( the green one in the photo) and cars from 2006 have a jack socket near the cigar lighter. Mine had no external socket but had the aux socket on the back, which is what I connected to. You will also need to splice into the radio loom to connect the 12v switched live and the earth.

Where can you get that?
I'd love to have a built-in Bluetooth receiver in my Mk1

From here, don’t be put off by Accura, they will fit the Jazz radio, just choose one with the green connector.

Will plugging one of those in make the built-in factory aux 3.5mm plug on the lower dash stop working or can they co-exist?

I believe the external 3.5mm input connects to the same socket on the radio, so alas there is no easy way. Not a good idea to simply piggy back the wiring - whilst it would probably work, there is a danger of damaging the bluetooth adaptor, or whatever you plug in. The two inputs could be switched manually, using a hard wired pushbutton switch or something.

A bit belated, but if it helps anyone, and for future reference, there's a copy of this page here ↓↓↓ with the missing photos

As posted by SP, it plugs into the same socket on the back of the radio, no way can it be piggy-backed. Not a problem for me as I don't have an aux socket on the console.

Now I have installed CaPlay I have 2 of these adapters available if anyone is interested in them.  One cost me £5.65 & the other £9. If I average that out and include post £9 each is about right.
If you have any questions just post on here or drop me a message.

Hi, I am looking to install an OEM style aux that can make use of the aux port near the cigarette lighter. Would you by any chance know of the correct cable for that as I am only seeing the cables which a green connector on one side and a male 3.5mm on the other side.

Also the bluetooth module you have shown, you mentioned something previously about splicing the cable to get the 12v and earthing. How would I do this and where would I know which place to put the spliced cable if I was to attempt adding the bluetooth module instead of the aux one as I am aware only one can exist at a time.
