What works and what doesn't!
« on: April 30, 2016, 09:31:31 AM »
Excuse me if this has already been covered, but having had my Mk3 SE for six months  now I'm still not completely au fait with the "infotainment " screen and it's messages and capabilities.
Here is my take on what works and what does not.......
WORKS
CD player
Radio
Music from a memory stick
Clock
Telephone via bluetooth
DOESN'T WORK
Music from ipod
Mirrorlink
Wifi
Any external input

I always get a " system not responding" message and its a distraction to constantly tap it to switch it off.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I have similar experiences to you, but haven't tried all the options you have. This system is the most infuriating aspect of the car. Radio, CD, phone/BT all seem broadly OK. Can't get an analogue clock display unless you first change the "skin". Can't test Mirrorlink because my cheapo phone doesn't support it, but 3rd party reports are not encouraging. Wi-Fi is OK, provided you set your phone up as a wi-fi hot-spot and connect the car to that, rather than trying to connect the car to an external wi-fi source. Also I have successfully streamed Spotify from phone to the car system via Bluetooth.

Although of course none of it works when the system crashes and reboots itself.

Regarding the "System not responding" message, have a look at this thread:

This is a fault, many - but not all - people get it. Latest info is that there is now a software update, but it might - if that doesn't work - require a hardware change.

I have my iPod connected via the USB port between the seats, and leave it plugged in permanently and it works fine, except for the occasional times when it locks up and you have to press and hold the centre button with the top of the navigation ring. But that's an iPod problem not the car.

Which iPod are you using?

When you say external input do you mean the 3.5mm socket?

Have you tried music streaming via Bluetooth?

My ipod is a second generation ipod nano.
The system won't recognise it at all.
I had to put all my music on a memory stick and plug it in the area between the seats.
It works fine that way but I was just disappointed that the ipod itself didn't work , when I was told that it was a feature of the infotainment system.
I don't store music on my telephone so I can't use the bluetooth option.
I get particularly bit owned off with the continuous ' system not responding try again / wait ' message.

I have a 4th gen Nano (late 2008) and that worked using it's supplied Apple cable on a 63 plate Mk2 Jazz courtesy car but not on my dad's 64 plate Kia Picanto. It worked on a 63 plate VW Polo but that came with it's own [VW group] proprietary to Apple dock connector lead.

I couldn't get screen mirroring to work either, although my Samsung Galaxy A3 phone supports it.
Music from USB stick plugged in via the sockets under the armrest works fine.
