Scratch near Gearstick
« on: October 01, 2024, 01:33:43 PM »
I've noticed a few scratches near the Gearstick its surrounded by this shiny plastic. I can't think how it happened but it must scratch very easily.  Is there anything I can use to protect it. I've seen some stickers for the area but these seem permanent - not what I want. Just removable laminate etc

And sorry I've posted in MK2 and it should be in MK3

You could try car vinyl wrap which is said to be easily removable without leaving glue residue. .   Lots of sellers on ebay sell small sizes  .  I think you can get it in clear or a variety of colours or go the whole hog and try a special finish such as carbon fibre effect   8)

I have never used it but  its said to be easy to remove without leaving glue residue.    I think when fitting you can peel it off and reposition it, smooth out air bubbles and it can stretch a certain amount  to mould itself to  curved surfaces.

I believe  it adheres mostly through surface tension, any glue used is fairly low tack, (unlike old fashioned "Fablon".)
My IQ test came back negative

With our car, that would be filed under patina and evidence of a life well lived.  ;D

That said, I know these things can annoy once you've noticed them. Maybe replace with a cheap used part? Ebay would be my choice for searching.
