Radio and maps audio
« on: September 30, 2024, 03:48:25 PM »
I have a 2018 SE model. When I connect my phone via mobile it's fine to take or make calls, but if I use Google Maps I'm not usually getting the sound on the speakers, or even from the phone itself. I'm hard of hearing and it's much better when I can get the sound through the speakers. Can anyone help please?

Try connecting via Blue Tooth (Pairing) and ensure Google maps is set to play through Blue Tooth.
I use Waze (reputed to be prototype Google Maps) which will use Jazz 2017 Infotainment system to 'play' navigation instructions. In Waze Settings >Voice & Sound>Play Sound to Phone Speaker ->OFF
Its a bit  of a fiddle, so experiment with the setup before your trip!
Some hearing aides (e.g. Phonax Audeo L50) will play sound from Android (9) Smart phone direct to your ears. When I tried this it appeared to be for my ears only - which up set wife!!

I have no direct experience of that, but a couple of suggestions.

The obvious one is to check the volume setting on the phone.

If that's OK, there are some settings in Google maps governing how sound is played that might be worth checking: in Maps, tap your profile picture at top right, then Settings, scroll down to find  Navigation Settings.

Any good?

I can't work out how to post a screenshot on here, but when I go into those settings it says its enabled to 'play voice over bluetooth'.

I can hear Google maps audio through the phone itself, but not when it's connected to the car via Bluetooth.

When I'm working I connect my work phone to the car for calls, then use my personal phone for maps. It would be nice to be able to do both through the same phone.

I've tried Waze in the past and never really got on with it (before I got this car, so nothing to do with that.) I'll give it another go and see if that's any better.

Unfortunately my hearing aids don't 'talk to' my phone.

I may be way off beam here, but are you expecting to be able to listen to the radio (or other music source) and have the Maps directions interrupt? If so, I'm not sure that'll work. If the phone is providing it's Maps audio over Bluetooth, then you need the infotainment unit switched to Bluetooth input, ie no radio. If that's correct, you'll need to use the phone as the music source as well as the Maps directions. Just a guess though, I've never tried to do it (I find my phone volume on its own is loud enough not to need it).

I use the setup you're trying to get working

android google maps , settings - navigation settings - play voice over bluetooth

on the car , turn on audio , select bluetooth as the source ,

in the phone settings - bluetooth -   Click on Honda HFT - click on settings - make sure phone calls , media audio and contact sharing are all enabled.

of course, you can't play music from other sources , only from the phone itself.
