MPG for those interested

I have  feeling if we plotted mpg vs yearly miles vs mpg for all members it would be a straight line of less = more

1 year old this week, just over 2000 miles and my average is just under 57mpg.
Highs of 110 and lows of 30's. All in all, very happy with that, considering the cars main use is very short 2-3 mile cold start trips, with a handful of 20-60 mile trips.

Almost exactly my mileage and pattern of usage. I'm showing 56.4 (calculated manually) over 4,000 miles in two years. I do loads of those 2 to 3 mile jobs as well - a killer in the winter but I like my comfort so the Climate Control stays on.

It's the most economical car I've ever owned.

My MK1 is doing around 30 mpg at the moment but saying that it does have a hole in the centre silencer around one of the exhaust rubber mount pins . Sounds like it's got a straight through pipe and environmentalists would go nuts. Not looking forward to getting it up on axel stands and cutting of the rusty bolts to remove it and wrap it with exhaust bandage. Got some new bolts to pop on . Hope they (Fit) m8X40mm.

If you have a mk 1 doing 30 mpg  are you not torturing yourself by reading  the mk4 mpg thread  where 90+ mpg is not unknown and if it drops below 60 mpg there are probably a reason such as  cold weather, short journeys, high speeds etc.?

Yes - haven't needed to fill since the cold weather set in but the pattern of previous winters will be repeated with a massive drop in mpg as the ICE is used to heat the car. The fibometer is showing 51.9 at the moment which, if previous experience is a guide, will equate to around 48/49 mpg. The last tank was around 62 mpg.

I'm used to it now and happy with my overall mpg of 56.4 mpg over 4,000 miles - the most economical car I've ever owned. The fact that the gap between high mpg and low mpg is larger than any car I've owned is something I'm used too. Certainly not going to do the EV thing of keeping the heater off and wearing my big coat!

You don't have to wear your big coat. Try maybe once with the heating OFF and the seat and steering wheel heating ON...

We all have our opinions and likes/dislikes but turning the cabin heating off seems daft to me

Buy a car for over £20k and then worry about a few quid a month and just have warm hands and rear end

Doesn't keep the inner glass clear and you end up with a cold nose

I was amazed when I had the E previously, the number of owners that would keep the climate control/heater off and just use the heated seats and steering wheel, just to get a fraction more range. I am in the same camp, I just don't get it.
Getting from A to B, dry and comfortable what ever the weather is what a car is about.

Latest fill with ambients gone up about 4degc in last week a 3.73mpg improvement still with some really mucky motorway driving.

My energy smart meters at home are the same. Surprising how much  energy consumption goes up and down with just a few degrees change in the weather.   I knew to be frugal anyway without a display,but it can help.
