Does this look right ?
« on: September 17, 2019, 07:54:57 AM »
Hello all... picked up my new car yesterday (2012 model)  in Milano red from a Honda dealer.  When we were looking at the car I said to the salesman that one of the rear doors looked a slightly different colour.  He just went on to say that  often the bumpers will be slightly different as they are plastic ! .. Ok.   I kick myself now that I didn't pursue this as I am convinced the rear door is a different shade of red and it's not a trick of the light.   Any ideas please?

Definitely a different shade. I can only think it's been replaced.

Or is it? What do you think?

Definitely different. Depends how recently it was changed. May "mellow" a little as reds often do.

100% a poor colour match, it would drive me nuts. Common for bumpers to be hard to match but that's a door...

I'd respray it if you can.

Totally agree with others, certainly not the original colour, maybe repaired following a bump or replaced.
The problem you have, if you have it resprayed, will it be any better, as you are trying to match new paint to 9 year old paint?
Maybe speak to the dealer, with a view to having the whole side resprayed, but I guess we already know what his response would be!

That's not fading, that's just a poor match. Any paint can be matched, even if it's faded. Have a look around the hinges for colour difference, overspray and signs of disturbance. I would guess that it's been painted, even a replacement door in colour wouldn't be as bad a match as that.

At the end of the day, cars get bumped and scraped, and it's not uncommon to find repairs. If they are done correctly, there's nothing wrong with that, but that looks very poor and will give you problems when you come to sell the car on or trade it in.

To be fair, if it's a decent job, I would rather see a repainted door than repairs around a chassis leg or boot floor, for example.

Hard luck, I've owned Jazz models in milano Red over the years since 2002
Thats a repair job, did the dealer show you the HPI Experian report ?
This should have highlighted the previous repair, I would ask for your money back under the 2015 w consumer rights act >

Sorry to hear of your experience....that is one of the worst examples I've ever seen. My rear bumper on my Storm Silver Jazz was replaced after a rear ender, it doesn't quite match the rest of the car as bumpers come pre-painted from Honda, but you really have to look to spot it. I've had the front nearside wing replaced and the driver's door resprayed by a bodyshop and the colour match is 100% spot on.

That's not a professional body shop job.  A decent body shop will be able to respray the door to match the rest of the car.  Doubtful you will get anywhere with the dealer.  I would go and get professional advice from a company that just does bodywork.

Unfortunately, any repairs will only show up on an HPI report if the car has been a total loss.

An HPI does not tell you if a car has had previous insurance repairs.

Thank you all so much for your replies and comments... very much appreciated.  We have been back  to the dealer   (Honda ) and sent the photos .. they said they were shocked ( yeah right ! ) to see them and that nobody had noticed the doors were a different shade of red !

They have agreed to take the car back and respray with the correct colour.  Unfortunately of course this could turn out worse, but it's worth a try.  The car itself is great .  They have assured us that if the respray doesn't do the trick then they will sort something else out for us.    I wonder what !

Thanks again everyone

Sounds like a reasonable outcome, if they can sort it out to your satisfaction.

Main dealers normally have access to decent bodywork facilities, there is absolutely no reason why they should not be able to respray the door to match the rest of the car.

Out of interest was this an "approved" Honda & if so, do the terms of the approval give you any automatic rights
