Good choice Jocko. The Skoda Fabia scores well on many of the reports I've read and, as Kremmen suggests, they have a better reliability record than the parent company - VW.

Hope you stay in touch. I'll look forward to seeing your mpg on Fuelly.

Silver not my favourite colour either but they do hide the dirt well.

Skoda were always the best of the  eastern european cars, which was  not a high bar.     Now they are VW's with a bit less soft touch plastic.

Even in the  east Ladas are known as Moscow Tractors.           Here's one that takes it literally.  (although the keen eyed will notice its actually a Moskvitch.  )

I don't understand those % marks.

We all know the Jazz trumps a lot of those so why so low ?
Let's be careful out there !

Now I have to start taking the bits off the Jazz I want to keep. I have no idea how to get the Viofo GPS unit off the windscreen. It is firmly glued on.
Once I had haggled and completed the deal the salesman said, "What are you doing with your old car?". When I said I was scrapping it he said he would give me £100 for it. That is twice what WBAC offered me a year or so back when it had a full MOT!

Use some strong dental floss and use a long length as a saw. There is also a length of string in the box as well. Failing that I've had success using a kitchen spatula with the end warmed up:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/KitchenCraft-Professional-Stainless-Palette-Cooking/dp/B0001IWXVU/ref=asc_df_B0001IWXVU/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=232028567160&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17238229069316760138&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046086&hvtargid=pla-421678204229&psc=1&th=1&psc=1

Maybe worth heating it with a hairdryer to soften the pad.

I just looked on the ViofoUK site and the V3 is now very short on spares. I bought a spare mount and sticky pads some time ago, no longer shown.

Let's be careful out there !

Correct.

Good luck with the Fabia Jocko, your helpful posts on the Jazz since I purchased mine over 2 years ago have always been interesting and useful.

Thank you. I am beginning to wonder if I have made the right decision. I had gone to look at a diesel Fabia with £0 road tax but it was sold before I got there. I had researched that but nothing else. The 1.4L is a nice car, fully loaded, but since paying my deposit (it is to be MOT'd and valeted) I have time to research it. it is £220 a year road tax and runs on 205/45 R16V tyres. Rather pricey with no all-weather options that I have found so far. The mpg is not that good either though I may be able to squeeze a bit more out of it (mind you, at 3,000 miles a year petrol is hardly a burden). And it is quite a bit heavier to insure than the Jazz. I think I have been spoiled these past six and a half years.

Just for interest, would it be possible to put the reg number of your car on the forum?

I can understand if you don't want to, but it would be just be interesting to have a look at the MOT history and see where the problems were found so that I can check them out on our 53 plate jazz.

I'm quite surprised that there was a corrosion issue as the Haynes manuul states that "the important parts of the chassis are hot dip galvanised", and I was wondering where the corrosion is likely to show up first.

Also, the guy on the High Peak Autos series of vidoeos on Youtube has been saying for quite a while that the minimum value of a scrap car these days is arounf £300, so the salesman could be on to a nice little earner ......

Cheers

Sorry to hear about your Jazz, it's a shame that it wasn't worth repairing to keep it on the road.

Skoda is just as decent as any VW (or SEAT, or Audi) but they are creeping upwards in pricing these days. I'm not particularly a fan of the Fabia (I'd have a vRS Octavia, or maybe a Superb) but either way make sure that it meets all of your expectations before committing.

Good luck!

The car has never failed an MOT in all the time I have owned it. I put it in for a pre-MOT so there is nothing on the system but here is the list of items on the handwritten sheet I was given.

Emissions.
EML on during emissions.
Parking brake travel.
Service brake 42%.
NSR sill holed.
NSR inner wing holed.
OSR sill holed.
OSR inner wing holed.

Advisories:
Fuel pipes.
Both front brake pipes.
NSR F-R brake pipe.
Coolant leak at radiator hose.
Both front “suspen” arm bushes splitting.
OSF + NSR tyres side wall damaged.
Gearbox mount rubber worn/split.
Rear chassis corroded.
And something unreadable about the rear suspension.
