CD Player Spits Out Discs

I bought my 2010 Jazz in June from a used car dealer locally. They said they'd checked everything but when I came to try a CD about 6 weeks later, the CD player takes the disc but then spits it out with the message 'Bad Disc'. So obviously I tried several others, but got the same result. Does anyone have any ideas? The radio works fine, so I wonder if the player is just dirty? The dealer says they'll look at it, but their warranty doesn't cover it, so if I can fix it myself ...

Have you tried a bought disc? Sometimes made up discs can be a bit funny. Also, the CD player will not play mp3/mp4 discs.

I think the mk 2 one does, our certainly plays MP3 and WMA discs.

I'd agree it's worth trying a CD/DVD cleaner, if the player is dirty and can't read the disk catalogue (for want of the correct term) that would lead it to spit it out like you report.

I'm sure I put the CD in the right way round, and my adult son and also the salesman at the garage tried with the same result.

I was actually trying bought CDs - I tried several too, again with the same result.

Thank you Ralph and springswood, I have gone with your idea to try a cleaner, it's being delivered tomorrow! When I viewed the car it had been kept on the forecourt for a while, and they hadn't valeted it since it came in - it was pretty filthy and dusty inside and out, so it wouldn't surprise me if the player does just need a good clean.

Mk1s can play audio CD-RWs
