Soaring Used Car Prices
« on: September 29, 2021, 05:49:51 PM »
I've read a bit about this but let me tell you my experience:

The car is a January 2020 1.3 EX CVT Navi. It has 3900 miles on the clock.

15th May 2021 - We Buy Any Car - £13,350.

20th June 2021 - We Buy Any Car - £13,900

24th September 2021 - Cazoo - £16,750

Today (29/09/21) - We Buy Any Car - £16,770 and Holdsworth Honda Warrington £15,390 as a part ex.

Some good offers on new Hondas. Seriously thinking of going for a Mk4 which, the dealer says, they have several in stock.

I had the same idea Pete,
I swopped my Mk3 for a Mk4 in August.

I did like my Mk3 but the trade-ins are a bit strange at the moment and if you can trade up for less and it's affordable then why not.

The biggest difference for me between the two is the acceleration of the Mk4. It's so quick with all that extra torque and easily keeps up with all the traffic, especially going up hills.

Have you had a test drive in one ?

It will be alright in the end, if it's not alright then it's not the end !

I'm going to have one tomorrow.

It's a really odd situation. The dealer said they are very short of good used stock. My neighbour, who runs a garage (servicing, MOTs rather than car sales), told me that the trade is desperate for new stock. At the same time, Honda seem to have new stock available.

It might only cost me about £3000 to £4000 to change.

Obviously many people not impressed by all the 'features' of the latest cars coming onto the market....
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Even with all the so called 'Nanny' systems I still enjoy driving it. Smooth and quiet and loads of useful new tech.

The only one I turn off is RDMS because it's far too sensitive to anything other than a consistent road surface. Any signs of a road repair and it often picks up the joins as white lines. The resultant steering wheel wobble and orange dash warning ruins the drive.
Let's be careful out there !

I do agree with this, but I think it is more about the implementation of them. My 2016 Toyota has most of these features but the key ones are switched off with a button, or work well behind the scenes (think ACC with radar and kept simple, not trying to drive the car autonomously). Also, a lot of drivers may be hesitant about buying new given where we are in the switchover to alternative fuels.

The extra torque transforms the performance plus the Mk 4 should give you significantly better mpg.

So I had a test drive yesterday in an EX spec Mk4. I found it a completely different driving experience - similar to the short test drive I had some time ago in a pal's Nissan Leaf. I like my Mk3 but I was blown away with this car.

They offered me £16,000 for my Mk 3. I have a midnight blue EX on order. My driving style, mostly urban and suburban, should suit a hybrid.

Exactly what I thought. My Mk3 was a good car but when I drove the Mk4 I thought it's like a different car.

Funds limiting me to a Mk1 I have occasionally experienced Jazz envy but the Mk4 takes it to a new level  ;)
