Can't lock my car, it stays on.
« on: September 04, 2021, 07:15:24 PM »
Hi,
I am having a bit of an issue with my wife's 2017 Jazz EX (UK).
When I press the Start button to switch the car off, the engine turns off, the dash goes dark, but the radio display stays on.
Pressing the button again only cycles the dash on or switches on the engine if the brake pedal is depressed.

When I open the door, the car chime starts its *ding* *ding* *ding*, and when I leave the car and close the door behind me it rapidly beeps.

It's almost like I have left the lights on or something, but they are off. The radio remains on, and if I use the radio power button it just says "Audio Off".

Even if I leave the car for like 20 minutes, it still stays on. The car does not react to the remote, so it has to stay unlocked.

I have reset all settings in the car, and I have also factory reset the radio just in case.

The only way not to discharge the battery overnight is to disconnect it when not using the car.

It drives us mad. Any idea why is this happening?

Have you got the car in P mode?

While I have a think.
Did you know that you can't lock the doors if there is a key in the car.

Thanks for the suggestion, one key is in the house, the other one in my hand when I leave the car.
I swapped the keys, it seems to make no difference.

An update: I left the car w/o battery overnight, and it didn't help. Plus I managed to lock my radio.
Does anyone have any ideas about what to do with the issue? My nearest dealer is 30 miles away

I take it we are talking "keyless" here? Is there not a physical "old-fashioned" key you can also use?

Have you tried phoning the dealership and asking if they might known what is wrong?
If they can't help try phoning another dealer, after all it's only a phone call.

Even if I would use the physical key the car would stay on. I am stumped..

Yeah, I will try calling the dealership tomos.

Have you checked all the door-closed switches to see if you have one stuck/non-operational? I'm assuming they are the rubber boot covered switches by each door latch. Easy to check if one is not working just by pressing it in with the door open and trying the key.

Oh, and especially the rear hatch. Had some work done on mine and it now seems a little 'sensitive' to how you shut it. Needs a second attempt sometimes.

I believe the push start/stop button was a known common fault.

Not sure if this is relevant to your problem.

2017 1.3 EX  Only had the car 12days.
This happened to me Yesterday Morning (Thursday) Drained the Battery - God bless the AA
The Mechanic advised me that you MUST be sure that EVERYTHING is switched off or inactive (including Radio, just in case). This Forum indicates that there is a known fault in the Software. Has anybody contacted Honda UK to get advice on the Correct/Best solution?
Cheers Stu.

Whenever I've had a flat battery in the Mk2 it's been either one of the map lights that's been left on (they're difficult to notice under street lights, especially as they come on automatically when the ignition is off or the doors are opened) or the boot wasn't fully shut.

The car won't usually lock if the boot is not shut properly.

Maybe drop the back seat and check whether the boot light goes off when it's shut?
