CVT gearbox noise
« on: August 04, 2021, 03:08:14 PM »
I started to hear noise in my honda jazz 2011 CVT. The local garage diagnosed the noise to be due to the gearbox , however, he diagnosed the problem only from the sound that he heard while the car moving. Another garage told me that such noise may be due to the drive shaft,  or wheel bearing. I am so confused now. the car starts normally and once moves at a low speed the noise started, however, the car movement is smooth even at high speed.
please advise if anyone faced a similar problem and if it is a gearbox issue what is the best and cheapest way to solve the problem??

It's difficult to diagnose a noise,

To check either of the drive shafts,

Jack the one front wheel up,

After applying handbrake and/or chocks, put in gear and listen,

Then do the same for the other side,
Might help to pinpoint the source.

Hi,
My 2011 jazz cvt also developed a noise, if you search this site you will probably find my posts. Honda wanted over £14,000 for a new gearbox and were totally unhelpful about Information and spares. Finding the correct gearbox is a minefield of differing types. In the end I took the car to vmtp who are auto gearbox specialists who sourced a secondhand gearbox and transferred the parts, the gearbox now works perfectly but it cost me around £2,000. Vmtp are on 01543270555 and are based near cannock, you get a free loan car and I can thoroughly recommend them. I did consider selling my car before the noise became to obvious  but adding £2000 to what I would get meant that the new car would cost a bomb.my opinion of honda is unprintable as they obviously want you to scrap your car and buy a new one. If I were you I would speak to vmtp,
Chris
