Presuming you're asking for suggestions of what could cause that or how to fix it I'd say it could be the  compressor isn't turning. If so the drive belt would squeal as it slipped over the pulley.

Possibly a specialist job to repair but you may be able to check where the noise is coming from with the bonnet up. If memory serves it's low down on the left as you look from in front of the car. Could be worth searching here for posts about aircon problems.

Meanwhile it would help to know what model your Jazz is, has it been ok and just started happening or perhaps you've only recently got the car. If it's that you've only used your aircon in the hot weather it's worth knowing the 'gas' contains lubricants so it is a good idea to run aircon once a week or so to stop things seizing up and the seals drying out causing leaks.

Or is it? What do you think?

I would start by checking the belt tension. If it's too slack then it will slip (with the screeching you have noticed) when the aircon is initially turned on and the comprssor has to get spinning.

The mark2 Jazz onwards have a spring loaded arm to tension the auxiliary drive belt this will keep tension constant as the belt stretches or wears ( but belt stretch and wear are negligible as belt is made from Kevlar cords and polyurethane ) , the MK1 belt is tensioned by pivoting the alternator but you have to check tension along bottom run of belt which is a PITA....

Tensioner / idler pulleys bearings  are known to squeal but would squeal all the time not just when aircon turned on. Too much load on compressor due to either lack of lubrication or to much gas may cause squeal.

We have just had an air conditioning compressor fail on our 2008 CRV. It started as a ticking noise, and the local garage  guy said he thought it was the air con compressor, and I was wondering whether its best to get a compressor from a breakers or buy a non-Honda new part. Then there was moisture on the inside of the side windows overnight, which I am thinking is air con related. There then comes an electrical issue where the information panel in the dashboard starts to flicker . . . . . its all going pear-shaped.
Long story short, we traded it in for a VW Tiguan, whilst we could still get a decent return on it.

The a/c clutch became very noisy on our 2009 mk2 Jazz, but it was more of a jingling noise than screech.

Son-in-law has the car now - he is completely mechanically ignorant and just ignored it for about 18 months, then just the other day "something started smoking" - I didn't see it but guess it might have seized.  Local honda specialist fitted a secondhand compressor etc for £300, which I thought was very good.  They even, with no notice, lent him a car for a couple of days.

Either the belt is slack, or the aircon compressor is seized.
